Man, I had to go digging around for the book that poem was in. It’s even more awesome than I remembered. It’s called Flaming Beauty by Barbara Presnell. I won’t copy out the whole thing (copyright and all), but here’s my favorite part:

Then the flames begin to lick her chin,
her neck, the lobes of her ears

with a passion Ken’s tongue never knew,
curling her silk hair into tight knots,
wrinkling her skin, turning her black,

melting at last those thin lips
to a frown, and sad eyes drooping, smoking,
silent coughing, 187 silent screams.
