FYI, if you use the “Go Deeper” option on the resulting image you can apply as many of your photos to the processed image in series. The initial step seems to set the tone for the transformation, but the subsequent layers really sharpen/focus whatever things the software started to bring out.

I think you’re dealing with two separate issues.

1. Some of the Farktography pages work and some don’t. For instances clicking “Log in” on the Farktography Forums page and filling out the form fails consistently. But clicking to the “Home” page and logging in there works every time.

The 3rd photo is Pandora Box, a drag queen from the Ru Paul’s Drag Race content/reality-show. She’s has very good comedic timing, so I would think she’d make a good MC for an event like that.

Something odd is going on then… The URL that I uploaded into a posting didn’t work in a browser, but the Fark entry was still showing the image. Meaning one tab in a browser shows a broken image, and another tab with the Fark contest shows the entry with the image.

And yes, I should have checked the HTML carefully.

FWIW, I think hosting images on Fark is a big win overall. If nothing else, not getting all the browser cookies from every hosting site on the planet makes me happy. I have my browser setup to ask me each time a new webserver tries to set a cookie.

That makes sense, meaning that image which aren’t too big are just copied “as is”. But it’s worth noting that even in those cases, Fark will make a copy and host is on their servers. That’s good news for people with limited or unreliable hosting services.

Mike clarified that the code to re-size the image would respect the JPEG quality level used in the posted image. So, for instance, if you post a 1700×1800 JPEG saved with compression set to “85%”, then the Fark cache re-hosting code would re-size it to 850×900 using the same compression setting of “85%” in the process.

Don’t think of it as just a macro lens. Think of it as a pretty-damned-sharp lens…

Problem is… I usually have my 70-200mm f/2.8 VR with me while hiking. Makes it very hard to justify a 1:1 macro, since I’ll only put it on for those shots where I have to go beyond 1:4 reproduction. Nikon patented a 70-200mm f/4 VR that has 1:2 reproduction……

The only thing I don’t like about the D3100 is that when I plug it into my Linux system via USB cable it doesn’t appear as a mounted filesystem, like the D80 does. Instead there’s some obnoxious special mechanism for accessing the device that only certain applications know how to use. So I have to pull the SD card out and use a USB card reader…

Yeah this is correct and I’m aware of it. There’s an options page where you instruct zenfolio to use a custom domain. But in order to use that option you have to complete a successful DNS test, which is where I got the error message about the A record. Once that propigates, I’ll be able to set Zenfolio’s settings to use my domain name. Thanks…

Sorry to keep acting like the town naysayer but I just read the Zenfolio help pages and I’m pretty sure DNS along is insufficient for what you want to do. I believe any domain name you want to access your site has to be configured as a “Custom Domain” as they call them.

Ok it looks like the propigation period is over because one of the 2 errors I was getting is now resolved. This is the error I get from Zenfolio when I try to link the domain name:

I don’t think it’s a DNS problem. Instead, I think browser requests to http://buckwalterphotography.com or http://cjbuckwalter.zenfolio.com ARE getting to your hosting company. I’ve seen some before, I think I own one, and now there’s a few more entries on my must-have list.

That Orleans album is good FM-pop from the 1970’s, but the cover is awful. The song Still the One was even a pretty big hit. I’ve nver heard the other ones, although I’ve seen some of the covers on “worst album cover” lists before.
