I Snooted the hell out of my primary flash and placed another strobe on the floor that was supposed to provide fill, but because my remote trigger was in the tub so as not be seen if could not hit the fill flash strobe…you live, you learn

ParticipantHmmmm. I think I’m a little off-theme – and no chance to fixx0r it.
It’s REAL hard to be off theme in a theme I suggested! 😀 Basically, you would have to submit pics of the kids at Disney or something!
Okie-dokie. The two I did certainly have a dark mood. But they are bit more on the creepy side than the examples I’ve seen here.
What did you do to the doll’s and your daughter’s skin to get them so smooth? They almost look painted?
I’m guessing Topaz Adjust

KeymasterHey U-man: I don’t know what you did with the processing on your entries, but there’s something with the skin texture that looks overprocessed for Farktography.

I LOVE your second one, but I think it might be a little over-topazed for fark. Because the question will come up, MHO is that your first one is barely acceptable, but I’ll allow it.
/Hell, I love both.
//Tried really hard not to say “barely legal”February 23, 2012 at 1:15 am #44518Elsinore
KeymasterIs that what Topaz does? I know we’ve touched on it before, but both of them look over the line to me.

ParticipantEnnui – love the idea of “shooting” in the bathtub with a camera. Great concept.

Thanks, I wanted to provide the impression of violence without the actual…you know…violence. Also, I do not own any firearms and even if I did, I couldn’t bring myself to ever point it at my person in such a manner…even if I cleared them fifty times before doing it.
/very much a believer in the never point at anything you don’t intend to shoot.

In both photography and weapons 😉

Topaz does a lot. In one regard, it’s not terribly different than most of your basic PS adjustments, it just has MUCH better algorithms for doing such. I use it quite a bit for noise reduction and subtle sharpening, contrast enhancement, or saturation adjustments. I do try to keep it from looking too “HDR-ish” as it can when overdone like this:
Before Topaz
Heavy Topaz (too much for farktography, IMO)Otherwise:
Before Topaz
Medium Topaz (Okay for farktography, IMO)Before Topaz
Medium Topaz (Okay for farktography, IMO)Subtle Topaz for saturation/exposure (Okay for farktography, IMO)
Subtle Topaz sharpening (Okay for farktography, IMO)
Topaz noise reduction only (Okay for farktography, IMO)February 23, 2012 at 1:39 am #44524orionid

Gun oil leaves a nasty aftertaste for days, anyways.

KeymasterYeah, when it starts looking too tone mapped, it’s too far gone. The rules say even with otherwise legal tools, if it looks too unrealistic or cartoonish, it’s not legal.

ParticipantI’d say even the “medium topaz” ones you posted are too much for my taste, orionid. When I see photos that have been clearly touched to HDR-ish levels, I can understand why they are submittable, but I don’t tend to vote for them. That being said, I haven’t run across it too often in our contests.

Yeah, I almost labeled that one as “barely okay.”
