KeymasterMultiple photographs, stitched into one. All other Farktography rules apply.
ravnostic pieced together this theme suggestion for us–thanks!

ParticipantIt’s funny; I ‘stitched’ it together back when I was unemployed. Now, we’re going in to forced rotating time off (one week a month), but it won’t start till after this contest!! lolz.

ParticipantAre we looking at panoramas or something else?
November 11, 2012 at 2:21 am #49270ravnostic
ParticipantPanoramas certainly fit the bill, mopsy but using software like Microsoft’s ICE, they don’t have to be just ‘linear’ (i.e., stitched horizontally or vertically only); a stitch with lots of frames of a scene, even from differing angles, will work just as well. I’ll see what I can ‘throw’ together and post as an example….
//(I haven’t even shot for this, other than the one I did that gave me the thought to resuggest the theme)

ParticipantI’ll keep checking with you.

ParticipantMopsy (and anyone else), here are some examples of ‘non-traditional’ stitches. FYI, I didn’t do anything with the images in the way of post-processing; they’re SOOC; I’ll probably do more with one’s I’ll use in the contest. Most photoshop programs should let you do this, but I like Microsoft’s ICE because it’s free, it works well, and by changing the ‘type’ of motion I can create different effects when it blends the images; plus, it’s drag-and-drop. It’s available here for either 32-bit or 64-bit (better) systems (and I recommend this link as it’s from Microsoft’s site itself, though it’s linked elsewhere you won’t get a buttload of additional crap from Microsoft): http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/
One nifty thing; by taking images at shallow DOF then stitching, you get some interesting focal effects, like the foreground and background chairs in focus, but some middle ones out of focus (kinda tilt-shifty):

Here’s a guy sitting at the bar. He moved some as I took the images, so his arms are…just weird…but then that’s the fun!
http://fossilspringsaz.com/pics/2012/nov/07/mix173_stitch.jpg
And of course if you have people in the shots, you can move them around and compile the images:

None of these are ‘perfect’ and I doubt I’ll be using them, and doing some post processing to the images (which I would do to one then copy-apply to all the others) would probably help some.
I know the last time this one done some farktographers did some neat things so you might look at what’s still posted via Bibliostats.
If anyone else has some neat programs or techniques, feel free to share.
//sorry it took so long to post; went out late last night to the bar to get these and drank Merlot because it was too cold for beer. Wine just knocks me out. It was good, though!

I can find the farktography discussion here, but I can’t locate the actual first contest. Anyone got any linkage?

The original had the difficulty of sticking to the regular fark rules as much as possible; on that basis, I’d say ‘no’ to stacking, other than the obvious necessity to overlap.Shouldn’t this be contest #3 of this series?

Stitching is what I meant, not stacking (the astro-vocabulary kicked in on me). Good catch; I’ll edit that.

ParticipantWell, I’ve got two. I have read and re-read everything you have said and decided you are not looking for the perfect panorama, so I threw together several photos of the same area and I like the outcome. Of course, the voters may not think so, but I’m having fun and frankly that is what it is all about.

ParticipantHaving fun is always a ‘win’. And no, they do not have to stitch perfectly.

ParticipantI was out shooting this morning for this contest, I think I have 3 entries, we’ll see. But I assume this is what you’re looking for:
Graffiti Alley by Craig in TO, on Flickrit’s an 8 shot composite using Microsoft ICE (as suggested upthread)
(It’s the same graffiti I used in Urban Art, but not the same file)

ParticipantStitching can be linear like yours, Pope, or less so (frames all over the place; up, down, taken at different angles; ICE is usually very good at putting them together properly!!)
Nice stitch, btw. I love urban art.

Thanks, I love urban art too. Luckily there is a very long alley way for it in Toronto. And since the mayor started cracking down on it, more people have ‘commissioned’ graffiti art as a way to stop tagging.
As for ICE, I have has some very interesting results from it. Some I kept, some I did not.
