11-28-12 – Vertical Landscapes

Good deal, Barracuda 🙂
Hey Rav: How did you get the dark side of your Hotel shot to be so bright shooting into a sunset/sunrise?
I’d have to check the exif data on that particular one; but I basically shot a bunch of frames after the sun went down and for about 1/2 hour, looking for the right combination of remnant daylight and neon brightness to expose it moreso than it was when I was shooting it last week in the total darkness. I’ll get back to ya with the time of that shot when I get home from work.
Elsinore; that shot was taken at 5:30, sunset was at 5:20. The street faces dead-west, so the sunset was actually quite a bit to the left of the frame–about 30 or so degrees. 1/40th second, at ISO 800 with exp. compensation set to +1 1/3, 18mm (29mm equiv). Also might have helped that I was only 1/2 mile from all the Phoenix high rises which provided some extent of reflected light from all the glass buildings.
All that being said, though, I need you to pull the picture. :o( It’s the one where I edited out the telephone lines. I’m posting the fark-friendly version in it’s place.
Els, in addition to rav‘s above, here are a few other issues I saw:
- vuprop‘s entry here appears to be a duplicate of his entry here in Stoned
- thepostess‘s second entry appears to have been deleted at flickr
- Kenny B and ruggernerd appear to have missed the whole “vertical” part of the contest
Rav: Gotcha; entry has been deleted. Thanks for the set up info; there are some East/West streets in town that I’ve been wanting to take photos of their buildings but I never could get the right light. Looks like I need to go later or earlier (though for me, that would be later)
CISS: Thanks for the heads up! Got all of those addressed. I’ve been gone most of the day, so haven’t had a chance to address that stuff till now. I’d had to pull another horizontal entry early this morning…I’m kinda surprised at the total number of horizontal entries given the very clear theme title and description; this one definitely doesn’t have the questionable gray areas some of our themes do…
Congrats to Mitt Romneys Tax Return this week!
Congrats to Mitt Romneys Tax Return this week!
That’s a nice way to start a Farktography career, eh? And congrats also to linguine for the combined vote win. Lots of really good stuff this week and a not-quite-as-anemic voter turnout as well.
