Participantposted this on FB too. i have that 18-105mm lens and really like it. better for how i use the camera and good optically. or to my not so technically critical eye it is.
the D7000 hit’s a sweet spot but my budget didn’t allow for it.

Sigma 17-50 f2.8I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on a D7000, body only. I’ve already got a set of SB-800s and lenses I’ve been using with my D80 – and my D80’s about ready to give up the ghost after several years of stormchasing.

It’s a really really nice camera. I didn’t make the switch without a ton of research first. I was really on the fence for along time between the Canon 7D and The D7000. Overall I decided to go with the camera that is best suited to the type of photos I take. The Nikon has superior AF & metering to the Canon. The Canon has better video but I am a photographer not a movie maker. In the end though the biggest dealbreaker on the Canon was high ISO performance. I am blown away by the ISO 3200 & 6400 images I have been seeing so far. I’m going to a show shortly so I will be putting it to the test tonight. I will post a few samples tomorrow.
