One thing is that I tend to use a lot of images, going from 1 second to 30 seconds in about 5 or 6 images.

Farktography is a fickle lady. The best I can say is that there is no point in sweating votes, finishes, etc. It is showing that you are putting thought and effort into your entries. a scanner is different in that it doesn’t use an aperture and lens to take a still image, it uses a moving lens to create an image of an object.

To me, instrumentation should show markings (or possibly a digital readout) to indicate different levels of whatever it is measuring. YMMV and I certainly won’t say that it’s required. I would look at a 10-22 or 12-24 on the wide end, and either the 100-400 or a 400 or 500 prime on the long end. The 28-300 is good for the zoom that it is, but it’s nothing like a dedicated long lens.
