ParticipantI think this is the least debated contest evar.
Damn it was had to narrow things down to three.
August 8, 2012 at 11:44 pm #48271ParticipantEarly bees; I’m working in photolithography today which means I’ll be starting earlier; right after I post for the contest I gotta head to work. :@(

ParticipantI still have a photograph to make, will post it tomorrow, if at all. Had to move to a new house last weekend and it’s been hell.
No landline, and no internet access in the short term.
/I’m dying here.

ParticipantHad a few other ideas that I never got around to exploring, but when I have a house full of bicycles and a new 100mm Macro lens handy, there’s always a chain around to photograph. All 3 of my entries this week are of my 78 Gazelle road bike.

The shots you posted are farking powerful shots. I am profoundly jealous of them. Indeed, I am pretty much gnashing my teeth at most of the shots you post. Are you a Ringer? 🙂

orionidParticipantEls, Can you delete my post at 2012-08-08 08:06:48 PM? I got flickerized on the auto-resize, and I like a different one better. K THX BAI.

You mentioned that the one photo with color pop effect was achieved with global adjustments. Were you desaturating all colors but blue? Either way, I would say that’s not in keeping with the spirit of the rules about Farktography modifications. Under “General Photographic Guidelines (The Number of the Counting Shall be 3)” it says:
You should strive to keep your results in the realm of the realistic. Cartoonish results from turning the saturation up to 3000, selective coloring (we can see your boyfriend’s pretty green eyes without turning everything else black and white), and the use of “artistic” filters that turn your photos into paintings or drawings are not what we’re going for here. Such use of these otherwise acceptable tools is discouraged and may subject your photograph to disqualification.
It’s a lovely shot, but given the rules actually speak to selective coloring and using acceptable tools for otherwise unacceptable effects, I think it would be better to submit a non-color pop version of that photo.
August 9, 2012 at 12:22 am #48278ParticipantElsinore, no, I just desaturated all channels and bumped the vibrance some. No specific channel alterations at all. Just that the chain and gears are very close to silver compared to a very bright blue. As I went to post the photo I was struck with how it may look that I was going overboard. I’ll upload a SOOC version and link here in a moment for comparison if there is any question.

Saturation/Vibrance Zeroed: https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338/FarktographyB_sides#5774462808973540162
As Submitted: https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338/Farktography#5774425600899376930
If its still too borderline to pass muster, I’ll resubmit the one without any saturation/vibrance adjustments.

I think the desaturated channel one, as submitted to the thread is too much, honestly. SOOC looks good, but I wouldn’t have a problem with the Saturation/Vibrance version, either. It looks more realistic than the desaturated channel version.
August 9, 2012 at 12:48 am #48281ParticipantFair enough, I’ll repost.
edit: reposted, this one can be nixed now: http://www.fark.com/comments/7258207/78593834#c78593834
