Participantorionid, in responce to your comments on disease while at sea, yes, MRSA kills. Those U-Boat conditions must have been a boiling pot for disease. I could say more but this probably isn’t the place to discuss it. Glad you got through your illness. I used to run long term care facilities and we dreaded MRSA. It’s the super bug that has very little to combat it.

KeymasterHey U-Man: I’m not really seeing the “weaponized context to your 2010-08-25 09:40:54 PM watermelon shot?

Umm. It’s a head with two giant knives in it.

KeymasterWell yeah, it’s been carved and it’s happy. Maybe it’s just me…

I looked at it as the watermelon having 2 weapons when I first saw it.

ParticipantSorry. Didn’t mean to comment and disappear. It was back-to-school meet-the-teachers night (woo-hoo) and my eldest ‘forgot’ about some homework until we got back. So I’ve been chasing kids.
Obviously, I was going for different/goofy/WTF. I had these old wicked blades and a watermelon that was forgotten behind a 24 pack in the garage fridge. Perhaps the smile is incongruent but I didn’t think about that during the 15 minutes I had to carve, set-up and shoot that pic.
IMO, it is weaponized enough. If you want to yank it, I’ll be miffed (MIFFED, I say). But, I won’t cry (too much) or anything.

ParticipantIf anyone wants to argue the point, U-Man, tell them that the brush-hook is the antecedent to the Brown Bill.

KeymasterI seem to be the only one, so I’ll stand down.

ParticipantIf anyone happens to look at my B-sides and has any thoughts along the lines of “you know, I’d probably have gone with this one over that one,” I’d welcome the input. Still working on trying to recognize what distinguishes a photo that I happen to like from one with perhaps more universal appeal…

I might have gone with the second Blue Angels picture instead of the little kid but only because it makes me wince to see his finger on the trigger in a crowd of legs. I realize its most likely empty but my dad would still freak out and I guess he taught me well. I really like the kids picture and I like your choices other than that.

ParticipantThanks, loki. And it was definitely empty and likely non-functional. It was at the same live fire exercise at Ft Bragg and there were several pieces laid out for all the public to pick up and play with. Otherwise, I’d never have let him near it! 🙂

ParticipantI must say I’m not a fan of armaments in general (hence my mostly week showing this week.) But I was impressed and voted for a surprising number of entries this week. Nice job by all. LOVE the weapon cube–very Borg-like. I almost expected to see Hugh peeking out from behind it (a nice photoshop opportunity, that.)

ParticipantIn case anybody was wondering…
Seriously, I didn’t know that was a model when I saw it in the thread! I was thinking “Wow, that is awesome, it must have been some sort of show or celebration!” Win! for the photo and doubleplus Win! for the model work.
