ParticipantThis is gonna be tricksy for me.Not the steadiest hands here. I’m sure this will turn out very cool though.

Kinda the point, I think.
I shot some this summer knowing this one was out there.
Probably a contest best to avoid if tripping balls…

ParticipantI presume the hand held ‘details’ provided mean ‘camera may not be rested upon something stable’, correct?
So something like laying on the ground on my belly, elbows on the ground, camera held to my eye would be okay? Or what about a camera hand held, but dangling by (and pulled against) a string of some type? Strings aren’t solid.
There’s actually a product out there similar to this for places where tripods and such aren’t allowed, a string with two loops on either end to hold down with your feet, and threaded through a mount on the bottom of the camera, which affords at least one, if not two axial planes of stability, yet is not in itself a solid object.
//These questions are gonna get asked, figured to get them out of the way early to determine if they’re against the spirit of the theme, or creative use within it.

ParticipantI’ve thought ab out this a bit more and experimented. The concept is to take any kind of mechanical support out of it, so the string thing is out.
Also out: Resting your hand on something solid with the camera in your hand.I think if you can move two joints (i. wrists and elbows) it should be good.
Don’t think of the contest as who can take the clearest hand held long exposure shot, but rather who can make the out of out the blur. I’m not saying you can’t go for the clearest shot though…
I think there will more questions, so I’ll do my best to answer in a timely fashion.

ParticipantWhat about flash? You can make sure pretty cool shots with second curtain flash, but I’m not sure that’s your intent. If not, you might wanna be explicit about it in the theme description.

In the theme discussion, I think we covered this: Flashes are okay.

ParticipantWhat if I place a tripod on top of an unstable object, say a small boat or something floating on water?

ParticipantI’m working on this one. It will take time

ParticipantGotta admit, I was thinking about mounting on a tripod, then hand-holding it aloft and *spin*. But yeah, I get that might not be kosher.

You could probably hold the camera over your head get similar results.
/I’m not responsible if you get too dizzy and drop your camera.

ParticipantThis one is FUN to shoot for, lemmetellyou. Got a whole bunch tonight on my way back from teaching college way out in the boonies.
A bonus benefit of bringing my camera to school near-daily… one of my students busted the window in my door at school (the middle school, not college) I was able to take a variety of high-res shots detailing the damage. Here’s hoping the little turd gets more than one day in ISS…

ParticipantI thought I share one of my attempts from last night. This is the Ferris wheel at a ‘local’ fall fair. The shakiness comes from me shivering, it was -1C after the sun went down.
Blurry Ferris Wheel by Craig in TO, on FlickrI have some other attempts that are very, uhm, psychedelic to say the least.
