Participantrav, that link just shows the number of people googling “fark.com”. At this point in time, I’d guess most people with a propensity to visit Fark already know what it’s about and where to find it, so I’m not surprised to see the big drop there.
The more relevant stats can be found here: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/fark.com#
Unfortunately, they only cover 2 years, but it looks like traffic has dropped to about 1/2 of what it was 2 years ago and by 10% in the last 3 months.
This shows in my stats as well. Here are the current graphs as of last Sunday (SQ=Sliding Quarter, SY=Sliding Year):
Both quarterly and yearly voting averages are at their lowest point ever. 🙁

ParticipantYou can’t be too surprised. Everyone hates Halloween. Aside from that, most themes of late have required reading more than 4 consecutive words to understand. I can only go three words before I need a pron break.

$5/ month for TF needs to go bye bye. The site needs more content open to the public. Although looking at Reddit’s numbers for the same time frame shows similarity. Maybe people are just getting sick of the internet?

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/reddit.comWith the notable exception of Total Fark Discussion, which is pretty much a certain group of Farkers, the whole site is open to the public. And there ain’t much but Circle Jerking going on in TFD. Sure, you might have to wait a while, but the doors open.
It’s just there is a plethora of choices out there, and Fark is in a certain way the “old Internet”. A lot of the Fark Regulars have been around for years, new people come and go, but a certain core remains. What makes Fark different is how big that core group is. There are a LOT of Farkers who’ve stayed around for a long, long time.
The slump in voting and participation is cyclical, it will bounce back.

ParticipantI go back to ’99 or maybe ’98 for my Boobies.
Perhaps the slump has to do with regulars getting pissed off by all the political posturing, so they take their toys and go home?
Or maybe people are just creeped out by the gross fake blood and stuff.November 4, 2012 at 1:30 am #49234nobigdeal
ParticipantI’ve been around since 05. I just out of the blue remembered my original account password. Weird. Haven’t logged onto that account since 2009.

ParticipantAlso also wik there was kind of this big storm that happened last week. Dunno if you guys heard about it. But it knocked out power in a lot of places and they even cancelled Halloween in New Jersey so that plus the fact that holiday week contests usually get lower voter turnout because people are doing things makes this not really concerning to me.
Frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole internet had a downturn the second half of last week with NYC and NJ and CT residents unable to surf like normal.

ParticipantKes is correct.
But don’t forget how much of the internet is ignored in the rush to update one’s status from “hungry” to “making a sandwich” and tweeting exactly what was on that sandwich. More people are creating content these days (of whatever value) than ever, and that is time taken away from viewing others’ content.
