KeymasterBacklit photos, photographs where the border, outer edges or overall shape of the subject(s) are highlighted. Difficulty: No people/animals. Shadows or reflections can’t be the primary focus of your photos.
From the shadowy depths, Barracuda suggested this theme.

ParticipantAt last, been saving a few shots from last summer/fall for this… muhahahaha! (slips back into the shadows)

Participant“Inanimate” obviously excludes people/animals (and they’re also explicitly excluded), but on what side do trees/foliage fall?

ParticipantQuick question; what about silhouettes the look like shadows?
(wouldn’t use this particular one again, but have other ideas with the same technique; also don’t know how it would play with the voters)

ParticipantRav, knowing the process, I’d say you’re within bounds.

Barracuda, inanimate can mean “not animated”, as in motionless, but it’s also used to mean lifeless. Trees/foliage are one of those but not the other, so what was your intent? I can work with either definition, just need to know which one.

ParticipantIf trees are in, this will make life WAY easier…. nearly froze my fingers off stopping twice this morning to shoot a a statue and a sculpture. Tree silhouettes I got plenty of.
Granted, I was biking at the time, so there wasn’t any chance of me warming up anyway, but having to unglove twice didn’t help at all…March 18, 2013 at 10:13 pm #50628Barracuda
ParticipantI recall in the theme thread we decided that trees were in to keep it as open as possible.

ParticipantI’m whooped. I’ve stayed up too late all week long. Anybody mind posting OBO while I go to bed a few hours early?

Just caption it “Stereotypical Oregon Coastal Rock Silhouettes”
Many thanks to whomever!

Participantorionid, I’d be happy to OBO, but I don’t know anything about flickr – how do I find the direct link to the image?
March 20, 2013 at 10:22 pm #50631CauseISaidSo
ParticipantNevermind, I found one. Not sure it’s the “architected” means of doing so (had to dig through page source), but I found a link.

ParticipantI just started a thread over here: http://farktography.net/index.php?module=forum&file=viewtopic&t=3891 with a question that’s VERY important to me, and has a bit of urgency (and relevance to the fact that today’s contest day).
Any/all help will be appreciated mightily.

ParticipantIt’s a change of pace to have three new-ish photos; all were taken within the past month and two within the past week! For reference, if you recognize my tree-with-benches shot, it’s the same scene, but a more recent picture (yesterday, in fact) as used in “Parks”
