i had the worst time coming up with stuff for this one – couldn’t just free my mind. finally narrowed it down but i think it’s the hardest i’ve ever thought about what i wanted to submit.
should be interesting with the wide open interpretation. 😀

that’s because you have an excellent eye and a knack for finding hidden beauty.

Participantgoing to rest my weary head for a bit. i know it’s becoming a cliche but there are so many beautiful photos posted already 🙂

ParticipantHey, this is the first time I’ve entered as a TF’er (thanks veruca!) and I have a question. I noticed that voting in enabled only after it hits the main page. Is that normal?
And oh yeah, this was a really fun theme – pretty open, but not too open. Great photos. We should publish a Farktography coffee table book or something.

ParticipantYeah, that’s normal – voting gets disabled when a thread is greenlighted (you can vote before that happens, and I think those votes count)

yeah, they do count. so you can vote up until a greenlight time is scheduled, and then again after the thread goes green.

ParticipantWOW you guys! Fan-freakin’-tastic. By morning this thread will almost be too much to take. It’s really kind of overwhelming! 😀

ParticipantOK I’ll readily admit I know nothing about photography. I also know nothing about half the themes posted here. But I play along to be cannon fodder for the pros who people like me make look good.
So I submit a pic that my own reaction to was “meh” basically so I could say I articipated. Set it up in about 10 seconds (not including all the time invested washing/waxing the vehicles involved) and shot it with the camera in hands and on no-brainer mode.
The thing gets 18 votes, more than half of the winning entries and literally multiple times the number of votes my previous entrants have ever earned. There’s like 50 pictures I like better that have fewer votes than mine.
Go figger.

Ah, the fickle finger of the greater voting community. I’ve posted photos which I love dearly, and then others which I’m also ‘meh’ about which seem to attract more attention. Sometimes the opposite as well…you just never know.
I can’t tell if you’re just wondering out loud or otherwise, but personally in all the contests I’ve entered I still walk away with a smile because someone liked my photo. That and I really enjoy seeing what everyone else has to offer, too.

Mostly wondering out loud, I know nobody can come on here and say “to get lots of votes, you need to do this, this, and this”. Just amused that so many like what I shot basically as an afterthought Wednesday afternoon.
Definitely agree with the smile thing. The first time I checked the results of the first week I submitted something and saw I had actually earned a single vote it was like “hey, that’s cool, I can’t be totally out of my element here”. Next thing you know I’ll be submitting B&W pics with little copyright thingies on them.
