KeymasterWander through the back alleys and laneways and take photographs. Difficulty: try not to get mugged.
Pope_Larry_II held a Conclave, and ye did we see white smoke burst from his ears as another theme was selected.

ParticipantQuestion: Can a Venetian canal that would be considered a back alley if it were paved be a back alley for purposes of this contest?
I got plenty of others if the answer is no.

ParticipantA back alley implies an urban setting…does laneway imply a rural setting?

ParticipantCrap, I was downtown Detroit last night and forgot about this theme. I do have one entry already that I did when this theme was just a suggestion.
cameraflage, I think laneway is a Canadian term, I think it means where you queue at a Tim Horton’s drive-thru. It does sound rural though. I’m interpreting the theme as urban, but maybe that’s not necessarily correct so I should open mind.April 28, 2013 at 12:52 pm #50770Pope_Larry_II

My intention for the contest was car/truck access lanes. You can use the canal if you want and let the voters decide.

Yes, rural laneways count.

ParticipantI went to one of my favourite places in the city to shoot yesterday for this contest (graffiti alley) and came a cross a rap video shoot, a fashion shoot, a band photo shoot (not the rap band), a TV/Movie shoot and a wedding photo shoot. I also had a few conversations with the ‘locals’ about the graffiti and how the neighbourhood has really gentrified in the last few years. All in all it was a fun day.

ParticipantWow, sounds like a popular place! Slightly off topic, but are most parts of Toronto pretty safe? I used to spend a lot of time in the GTA for work but haven’t been there for several years. Around here the places with lots of graffiti aren’t generally places that are safe to explore, especially carrying a big old camera.

The city is very safe, with the exception of a few pockets. The places around here with good graffiti usually turn into local attractions. A lot of the artist now do commissioned pieces, as the mayor has started a ‘war on graffiti’, now they just call them murals…and get grants for them. Our mayor is a bit of an idiot.

KeymasterWhoops..hit the submit button instead of preview, so the thread is up a few minutes early.
http://www.fark.com/comments/7729476Please note: Next week’s theme is the Anniversary theme, not Farkstronomy. Farkstronomy is the following week. Also, tonight I will be submitting the Anniversary theme to Fark as we discussed submitting themes a week ahead of time. We’ll see how it goes, but I figured the Anniversary theme where it’s mostly a review of things we’ve submitted before might be a good theme to start that with.

ParticipantI live in a city with plenty of nooks and crannies but never got off my ass to go shoot for this theme. Therefore I banned myself from using archive shots. Not happy with myself for being lazy.

KeymasterOn a semi-related note, it looks like the thread closed a bit later this time. Hopefully the close time will settle down…
