Baseball and a rented lens

I’ve been trying to get better at shooting sports this year (as well as just getting out to shoot again) and this past week I rented the Nikkor 70-200 1:4G to test it out. Here are the results

I’ve learned that unless I have the 400mm lens I’m cropping a lot, but with the lens it’s still amazingly crisp.
I’m going to try to get out to other “sporting events” (there is a BMX park close by I want to check out).

I often ran into the same thing when shooting football, Pope, even with a 1.4x TE on the 200. But shooting from the sidelines I often also needed a shorter lens so it had to do.
I came here expecting a horror story about catching a foul ball with a rented 800mm.
