Canon EOS Rebel 2000 with dead flash

My coworker has a Canon EOS Rebel 2000. The flash has quit working. When in the up mode, you can hear a hissing from the camera. Other than that, nothing. I belive it might be a bad capacitor or a break down on the PCB.

Anyone have any experience with this? Or know of any websites which deal with a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 camera tear down?

I have not been too lucky in the search.
