ParticipantEvery year, my wife gets bit by the baking bug and makes stuff.
Since I work from home and not in an office, getting rid of the stuff becomes problematic.
So, I’ve taken to collecting addresses from people on various forums in which I post/participate, and we ship stuff.
If you want any, now’s the time to PM me some names and addresses. Include any allergies or flavor preferences/dislikes. No guarantees on how many people will receive stuff. I believe she’s doing home-made nougats this year.
Last year it was fudge:

ParticipantSent… I was just wondering what to do with all the extra pecans I’m gonna have this year. I have two trees just starting to drop, and they’re *heavy* with nuts this year. I could have some on your doorstep in time for Christmas baking. 🙂

ParticipantMy taste buds say “Sign me up!” but my waistline says “Gimme a break, will ya?!?” My mother-in-law does something similar with cookies this time of year, so I really don’t need any extra sweets. Awfully nice of you both to offer, though, so I just wanted to say thanks!

ParticipantWe probably won’t be shipping until at least the end of the first week in December, if not a bit later.
But, no, I won’t be shipping to you. Hand-delivering, maybe.

ParticipantI just baked way too many pies for Thanksgiving. I still have two full ones left. It did happen. I have pics.
Pumpkin
Banana (Just like pumpkin but with bananas instead. Adjust spices accordingly. I should have blended all of the bananas instead of slicing some as they were not ripe enough and came out too chewy.)

ParticipantOMG… Banana pie! Never thought of such a thing. And yes, you HAVE to have slices on top…that looks awesome!

ParticipantWell, consider all the variations on sweet quick breads and muffins: banana, pumpkin, sweet potato, blue berry, carrot, zucchini,… The sweet and quick parts of all of them are basically the same: oil, sugar, egg, flour, leavening; only the vegetable ingredient changes, so why not do the same thing with pie? Pumpkin pie is basically a custard pie with cooked pumpkin added, likewise for sweet potato pie.
If you want to try it with sliced bananas make sure they’re either very ripe or try steaming them in their skins first so they’re not chewy. The banana slices did not initially float, and there is a second layer below the visible top layer. I recommend carefully laying out a single layer of banana slices all touching first and then pouring in the custard mixture. Also, use a kitchen scale to measure the amount of bananas needed.

ParticipantPlease enleaven me with how to adjust the spices for the bananers; that looks like a project I’d like to try!!

ParticipantI went with allspice and “Chai spice blend” instead of cinnamon, etc. as listed in the pumpkin pie recipe. I figured since bananas are tropical fruit, I should go with spices a bit more tropical in aroma. Really though, just go with what ever you like. Use the recipe quantities as a guideline.

Participantwell, I’ve managed to harvest all the nuts within 15′ of the ground over the past 2 weekends. I suppose I have about 15lbs of pecans, but I’m still picking up a dozen or so a day off the driveway that fall from the top half of the trees. I need to weigh these tonight just for grins. There are a *bunch* of nuts. I’ll throw a box full in the mail later this week.

ParticipantI didn’t harvest any, but I think our crop of hickories this year was on the order of 40-50 pounds just in the yard. Seriously, There’s more mature hickory trees at our new house than I’ve seen in one place in my life, and they’re all shagbark and shellbark. I’ve already started research for next year when I have time to streamline a shelling process and pie, butter, and bread recipes.

ParticipantI went out tonight to harvest nuts, but I didn’t like the patrons at the bar…
