I was talking to my stepson yesterday, who is to be the victim of a week of my time on my annual roadtrip in July, when he passed on a partial list of plans for some days in the middle of the week I’m there. It’s got a lot of rivers, canyons, trails (jeep and hiking), old mines and ghost towns in it along with a pass-thru of Craters of the Moon on the way back to civilization.

This could shape up to be a fun vacation.

better start driving! 😆 I’d say yes, but the first week is already full. You’d even have to rent/bring a jeep, a standard 2-wheel drive won’t cut it on the trails in Idaho… we have a wrangler, a moderately beefy 4WD Nissan truck for cargo and a Subaru Outback which I’m seriously expecting to have to park somewhere if these trails are anything like the others I’ve been on up there. I’m planning on the week after being an ad-hoc random drive around the Colorado Rockies and the forests/mountains of N. New Mexico. I’m thinking I want a higher rez shot of the Gunnison River thru Black Canyon, for starters… I’ve got the perfect wall for a 6ftX foot&1/2 hung vertically. I think the first few days of that week are gonna be spent on jeep trails looking for waterfalls, rapids and ponds to shoot. Hop a plane and I’ll meet you at Salt Lake! 😉 I’ve got a lot of choices for that area; Arches Nat’l Park, Canyonlands, Bryce, Zion…holy shit there are a million scenic areas to visit out there. My PCs gonna be crunching panos for weeks! 😆

So if anyone in the area wants to hook up and tramp around anywhere in like a 150-200 mile radius from 4corners, holler. N. NM is a beautiful contrast between high desert and forested mountains across the state. It’s really pretty striking the first time you see it.
