I am looking at the Bogen/Manfrotto aluminum monopods for a planned vacation in the mountains. I’d like to know if these monopods are rugged enough for use as a walking stick. I don’t plan to beat on it or abuse it, but having the option while hiking would be nice. Anyone used something like this in the intended or unintended fashion?

Monopods are more fragile than walking sticks. If you buy one that’s not designed to also be a walking stick, there’s a reasonable chance that you will damage it.

There are products out there that can do both, BTW. I think Leki makes something like this.
