ParticipantShots taken at night.
Previous Contests:
Aug 17, 2005 Night Time Photography -> Photographs made outdoors at night – between dusk and dawn.Oct 22, 2008 Middle Of The Night -> Inside, outside, sedate, rowdy, dark, bright, whatever – you figure it out. Stay up late and take some photos that capture the essence of the middle of the night.
Jun 23, 2010 All Night Long -> Nighttime photography.
As we just did AstroPhotography (and the best require stacking/overlay etc) lets keep the subject to mainly terrestrial (although sky in picture is not verboten). Any/all of the previous contest descriptions to be allowed/interpreted however you bloody well like.

KeymasterWe do have “Middle of the Night 2” in the Hopper to be scheduled. I’m a little confused as to what this theme is requiring. Is it combining the various night time themes without it being an astronomy theme?

ParticipantI guess I didn’t look at the hopper before submitting. I looked at past contests.
Everyone OK, if we just make that one “Classic 4” and dump this one?

KeymasterWell, we’ve really had several different night-related themes, but none has been exactly the same. How do you want to word is specifically? Just photos taken at/during night? Anything during the night as long as it isn’t astrophotography with stacked images? Star trails ok, again as long as it isn’t stacked? Or explicitly requiring terrestrial subjects?

ParticipantIf it means keeping this in play and providing another wide open theme, making this anything night-time, but mandatory terrestrial based is fine with me.
I haven’t felt very inspired lately, so I’ve been trawling the old contests in Bibliostats to see what hasn’t happened in a while. I’m good either way.November 24, 2013 at 3:27 pm #52496Elsinore
KeymasterOk, terrestrial based would preclude long exposure night sky/star trails/aurora shots? Though I guess one could argue that the aurora are terrestrial. Either way, I’m ok with it as long as we’re clear on what’s ok/not ok. I suspect when people think “night time photography” though, they’d think night sky/star trails/aurora shots would be ok. We could simply explicitly prohibit stacked/astrophotography stuff, though. Thoughts?

orionidParticipantNot my theme, but I like sky/trail/aurora good, stacks bad.

ParticipantI just looked at “Middle of the Night 2” and saw the difficulty was “No sky shots” so let’s have this one be wide open but with “Normal” Farktography rules in play (stacking and other excessive post-processing verboten).
Is that cool with everyone?
If we don’t get 2 votes, it won’t matter anyway.

KeymasterOk let’s go with that, and let’s count orionid’s comment as a +1, and here’s my +1 to go with it.
