Because even if you never have a need for it, you may, especially if you take it out of your bag at the last minute to save a few pounds (ie: 100mm f2.8 Macro), you may forget that you had your circular polarizer on that lens…

right before you drive across the southwest of the United States… 😯 🙁

Realized this as we stopped for lunch in Palm Springs, wanting to get some fantastically rich blue skies against the desert and puffy white clouds. Damn. Will have to see how much color I can bring out in Lightroom without it looking too cartoon-y. Thankfully I did have my new graduated ND filter (Tiffen .06) that I got for Christmas so not all was lost later in the trip. Haven’t pulled photos of either camera yet, but will do so tomorrow. Basically we took I-10 out of LA all the way to the I-20 split, then the I-30 split then home.

Too bad I’m in KC visiting my relatives for X-mas, or I would have invited you to stop in for a hot beverage. My house is only 2 blocks from I-10 in Las Cruces. Plus, I think I’ve got a spare CP in 58mm. C’est la vie.

On the positive side, don’t you just love how haze free Arizona and New Mexico are? Even if the sky always blows out, that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for clear landscapes 350 days a year. And if you really needed the CP, you could always have stopped and bought one. If I never bought camera gear while traveling, I wouldn’t have half my stuff. (Of course, I’m including long duration business trips.)

Yoyo, I would have indeed enjoyed a stop had you been in town. We did stop in Las Cruces for lunch on Thursday afternoon at Andele. Probably the best guacamole I’ve ever had (wife agrees too) and I’ve lived in Texas all my life and visited many parts of the South West.

I didn’t get too many shots during the trip, but managed to get a few at rest stops and out the side window now and then.

    (somewhere in western Az)

I’ll post a few in the Gallery when I get the rest of the photos processed.

Andale is a good choice, but I would have recommended La Posta for the more touristy experience. Your picture here looks like a mesquite bush, or what we New Mexicans call “lush greenery”.

LOL and you simply HAVE to come out in the fall, when the annual tumbleweed migration starts. Vast herds thundering across the plains…

Yoyo – no need for the ‘touristy’ experience. Wife and I much prefer the true local experience and the best food when traveling. 🙂

Was actually thinking of a mid-late spring trip back out to the western direction, this time with the Cir-Pol filter triple-checked in the gear.

La Posta is well liked by local as well but it’s about $5 nicer than Andale, and La Posta has a much better tequila menu. La Posta, as its name might indicate, is in a building that was formerly a Spanish post office. Andale being much more modern however does have the DIY salsa buffet and gives free lunch to veterans on Veterans Day and donates all paying customer tabs to the DAV. Then Chope’s in La Union (south of Las Cruces) had the benefit of not carding very strictly and also serving quarts in the restaurant. We have a Mexican restaurant for what ever your desire is, strangely enough even if your desire is Taco Bell.

    I don’t think he’s suicidal,…
