“Oh, don’t mind me, just some freaking auroras in my backyard.”

    Jealous/impressed.

    Nice shots!

Those are beautiful. Don’t know if actually living someplace further north of here is something I’d even think about, even if I could get shots like that… too damn cold! (It’s too damn cold here, too, but we’re already here, so we’re not exactly choosing it, so much as settling.)

I’ve seen a couple this far south, but they didn’t look like that. We’ve had red skies, and one night/morning while I was delivering papers, I had the perfect vantage for some that looked like huge white glowing kites/crosses. Yours are definitely nicer.

The only time I saw the aurorae was in Socorro, New Mexico. Massive flares in 2000 or 2001. They were mostly red with a few greens. At first I and some friends thought that it was just the local forest on fire accounting for the glow on the horizon, then someone got a call from a friend at the university observatory, so we all headed out out of town to Box Canyon for darker skies. About 50 people showed up for the viewing, which is pretty good considering the university is only about 1500 people and there was no advance notice or prior planning.
