I used one of those on my camcorder, they aren’t all that silly. A wide adapter and +10 diopter too.
If you’re going to use it for video the massive drop in image quality is barely noticeable.
I used a TC-DC58B 1.5x on the old Canon S2 IS + monopod, and got my first acceptable shot of the moon. I was surprised that I got any detail at all with just sharpening and levels. Serious cropping, of course.
Sure, it’s snapshotty but, OK for the non pixel-peepers.
