ParticipantAhhh, Irfanview… how I miss you. One of the few apps I have not found a suitable substitute for in Linux…

Participant35. Ugh.

Participanthehehe I was just stopping by to ask 🙂 I just chowed on a bowl. My wife says she’s tired of it after the third day 😆

ParticipantHere’s tomorrow’s lunch, just because…

Participantkill the heat as soon as the meat gets to “that point”.
I just had a big ol’ bowl with a fist-sized chunk of buttered baguette. I’m gonna be voracious on it for 3-4 days… there’s a reason I only do this like once a month, after a week you’re craving some variety. All I need is maybe 1/2 a dozen other weeks-worth recipes and I could prolly do dinner for 2 for a month on about $100 and still have steaks a couple times.

ParticipantI wish I could, but it is the one way I can keep in touch with a whole slew of people I would never speak to otherwise.
Google+. Twitter. Regular e-mail.
Farktography.
Move to or create the space where you want to be. FB is myspace. Folks just don’t know it yet.

ParticipantI don’t like stewed tomatoes but that sounds awesome! I guess I would just spoon them out of my bowl and dig in.
You could substitute diced tomatoes, or another can of broth, or water etc and add some other veggie as filler, I guess. I’m actually partial to okra in this stuff, but my wife hates “those drooly things”! 😆
CISO, now that I think about it, this stuff would likely be really tasty replacing the macaroni with a packet of taco seasoning…
Gotta love crock pots. Just throw whatever you have in there and in a couple hours you have food for days.

Participantro-tel is diced tomatoes with chilis.
Quantities:
one can beef broth (normal soup can size)
large can of mushrooms, drained
2 cans of stewed tomatoes (~14oz each)
large can of tomato paste (~16oz)
small can of ro-tel (or larger, if you like things spicy)
large can of black beans (about twice the size of a soup can, drained and rinsed)
2 packages of frozen super-sweet corn (total of 24oz)Toss all that into the crock pot and set to high. Slice up a whole head of garlic (I love garlic) and half a purple onion and brown in olive oil with pepper. Add stew beef (and maybe a little cheap whiskey) and brown til done outside and rare inside with more pepper, add to crock pot. After a couple hours boil up a cup or 2 of elbow macaroni, drain and add to crock pot. Feeds 2 people for about 4 dinners or more. Reheats really well, my wife swears it’s better after sitting in the fridge for a day then reheated.
There are so many ways to vary this mix, and with stew beef it might cost about $15 total. It gets cheaper with ground beef, or even no meat at all. Add garlic bread or a baguette and you’re all set.

ParticipantAs an aside, my friends that I would prefer to road trip with are scattered; and they’d blow a week in transit to and fro. I chipped in to get one of my stepson’s HS buddies out to party with us, for instance. But he’s got a week and it’s staggered with the week I have with my stepson (that’s such a bullshit label…I met him when I was 25 and he was 11. He’s been my best friend ever since). The idea hit me tonight to plan my visits around roadtrippin; as opposed to getting to them being the roadtrip we’re gonna meet and do the roadtrip as the event. Next year’s trip is gonna be a whole different game.

ParticipantLOL My “right half” is also averse to life without room service. She allows me to go do my runabouts, which I think is pretty cool. There’s no taking her along, tho, too many creepy-crawlies and pooping in the wild for her. 😆
Oh, and you ain’t gonna suffer much in Jamaica, I’m willing to bet! Try to make the best of it, eh? 😆

ParticipantI think I just tilted a couple days towards the east of four corners… linky. I don’t know if I can get access yet, but check out the terrain and satellite views. A campground in the southwest and a well-maintained road to the summit at ~12kft. No idea if I can get access, but satellite view shows no barricades anywhere. If that fails, there’s what looks like a public trailhead an hourish away that heads upstream to some waterfalls along a small river. I’m feeling the need to do some vertical aspect ratio landscapes if I can’t do sky (or if the wind makes it impossible)….

ParticipantI’d love to put together a small star party while I’m roadtripping next month. I could quite easily spend a couple nights in the 4 corners area or even farther west; as far as maybe Bryce/Zion. I’ll have a day or two on either side of Jul 19/20 if anyone wants to make a trip to some dark skies for a meet/greet/astroshoot…

ParticipantAwright… I think we’ve established that the Vogons are secretly targetting Farktographers.
I’m keeping a towel handy, and trying not to panic.

ParticipantOne thing learned from my own short time playing with the T-adapter I have is that I had to move my primary about an inch up the tube to reach focus at the camera’s sensor. The T-adapter adds some length to the imaging train (which is why many astrographs require extension tubes to be used visually).
If you get to the point where you want to use this OTA for more serious astrophotography, look into replacing that eyepiece mount with a 2″. The 1.25″ mounts are not large enough to allow for full illumination of a full-frame sensor, but should do well enough with an APS-C sensor.

Participantoh wow! That’s a target I always wanted to hit. The few clear nights we’ve had here on a weekend had so much wind that I haven’t been able to shoot at all last half of spring.
Man, that’s pretty!
