ParticipantCongrats to predle this week!
Thanks! That was totally beginner’s luck. Maybe we should do more contests that I’m clueless about.

ParticipantI have no idea what this is or how to do it or if it’s even possible to do without a special lens. Can someone please explain.

ParticipantI’m out of my league here but would like to give it a try. I use Picasa and I’m not sure of the difference between which of the effects are okay and which aren’t.
would this be okay? http://predle576.smugmug.com/Category/psychedelics/i-Skj7wch/0/L/6829008078_2ff90bf04c_o-L.jpg

ParticipantSo I’m assuming that if it’s in my state it’s ‘my neck of the woods’ – right? Nothing I’ve got is more than 100 miles from my home.

ParticipantI wondered why I ended up with the 2nd and 3rd place photos. I don’t think the 3rd place one is all that great so I was really pretty shocked. I wonder what it says about Colorado that the top three Ghost Town entries are from here.

ParticipantI have no idea what Vertical Landscapes means, can someone please explain it.
I’m not the theme submitter, but here’s the way I’m interpreting it:
First, the definition of “landscape” I’m using is “a section or expanse of rural scenery, usually extensive, that can be seen from a single viewpoint.” Since the theme explicitly says “natural or urban,” I’m ignoring the “rural” part of that definition.
Next, the “vertical” part means that the landscape photo should be taken in portrait orientation, which means that your camera is rotated 90 degrees so that the image is taller than it is wide. If you look at my entries here from Thick As A Brick, the first two meet this requirement while the third does not.
Thanks, it makes sense now. So I’m off to see if I can get anything good for tonight.

ParticipantWhen I first saw this I thought that there was just nothing I could use, but I was heading up to go hiking so I figured I’d take my camera just in case. It was awesome because it made me look at the place I usual hike from a whole different perspective. I’m used to looking at the Rockies and being awed by the big picture, I didn’t know until now how incredibly beautiful the small picture is. Thanks
