Personally I do these types of effects in post with PS.
First question: What am I missing by doing it in post and not with a hardware tilt/shift?

Second comment: Schnee; my favorite thing to do with this technique is to take a shot of something from above and then “shift” so that it looks like a miniature.
    Hooray false miniature shots!

/Where did all my fake-mini shots on photobucket go?

Wow SilverStag, that band pic rocks!
I’m trying to learn the “drag” technique, but I can’t get anything to be sharp at all. I end up with everything blurred the same amount.

Their sample pictures are very hard to focus on.
kibblesnbits old ones focus very easily. I wonder what the difference is.

Hooray (or should that be “Huzzah” ?). I just went to the local renn faire last night and I came home with a couple of possibles for the contest.
Crappy part is that the best one was done from long distance, with a short distance lens, jpg, at noisy-as-hell ISO. So I’m going to be working to try and correct that.

    Ok. Show and tell time.
Here’s a few examples (which got shranked and exif stripped because I use free photobucket)
First one is 14mm and front of lens is about 1 inch from the subject.

Second is 45mm (about 3 inches from subject. I take blame for camera shake)

Third is 100mm (about 6 inches from subject. Some wierdness that I DON’T take responsibility for.)

Last one is 150mm (8 inches from subject. REALLY hard to focus, the AF couldn’t get it at all… so I set it to “max” which should be infinity but with the macro filter on it’s really really not. I opened up the fstop to 4.5 which is wide open for this lens and then moved back and forth until I found this kind of “sort of” focus.)

er… ok.. so my img got snipped for some unknown reason…
    So in order…
