Any subject, as long as the photo itself is in square format.
Thanks to PandyFarmer for the theme suggestion!
April 30, 2010 at 12:13 pm #27326QueenBeeParticipanthmm so we have to crop the image to make it square rather than rectangular? I’d think cropping over changing image size to keep things in the proper proportions?

Unless you want that “DVD being played in the wrong aspect ratio” look…

heh right right.
I’ll be interested to see how things look different squared 🙂
April 30, 2010 at 8:20 pm #27329PandyFarmerParticipantIf you are interested (or need ideas), there are several Flickr groups devoted to square crops:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/squareformat/I’m looking forward to Elsinore’s Viewfinder pics!

Aw thanks 🙂 Not sure if I have any left that will play very well, but we’ll see. I have to watch because I used a couple in “Filtered for Your Protection” and that contest doesn’t show up in the FSM, so I have to make sure I double check which ones were already used.
May 3, 2010 at 11:33 pm #27332ennuipoetParticipantI’ve an aesthetic question. Back when I was lad working in darkrooms, I shot in Medium format on an old Yashica TLR (god I wish I could remember which one so I could buy one), so the end results were square. Now, as I crop my images I find they look wrong with a border. So, I know that borders are usually out, any chance of being able to border for this contest?
This is what I mean here is a shot I cropped as a prospect without the borders
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ennuipoet/4576060575/
and now with
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ennuipoet/4576061049/On this particular shot the border is subtle but is just seems more…right…with the border.
YMMV

Unless its been changed we’re allowed to add small borders to photos. I would think the border you added would be fine.
May 4, 2010 at 3:04 am #27334ElsinoreKeymastersoosh shoots medium format film and often crops so you can see the film register around the image. I’ve shot Polaroid and left the white border on, but like linguine said, it’s fair to add small borders around your images even if the image itself doesn’t come that way.

It was filtered for our protection.
/sorry, I just don’t get tired of that joke… =P

Works for me! I finally get to use some of the stuff I shot with my old Mamiya C220. This also gives me incentive to scan some of my negs and trannies so I can make some nice BIG prints to hang up around the lab.
May 5, 2010 at 7:11 pm #27338ennuipoetParticipantI just finished a roll on my Ikoflex TLR. Did you know there are no one hour photo places for 120 film? 🙂 And, I just purchased a Rollei TLR this week! (ok, ok it a Rolleicord not a Rolleiflex but still!) To bad this contest isn’t a couple of weeks.

i added one to mine and it really made a difference.

found that out the hard way when a friend gave me some 120 film. and the only local place that processed it went belly up. next closest is 30 miles away.
re 2 1/4 cameras i have a “Tower” which is a cheap sears knock off. after it got a small screw replaced to stop the light leak it works fine. also have a real rolli with leather case and built in meter. want to guess which got used more?
and i have two roll film backs for my 4×5 but they are 6×9 (2 1/4 x 3 1/4) and with one of the camera lenses there is major vignetting. makes for interesting shots though.
