KeymasterNeon lights – not just neon colors.
Yugoboy has dazzled us with this theme!

ParticipantSo to clarify, gas filled tubes with high voltage applied from one end to the other causing a cascading internal plasma discharge are not a requirement,… we can also use things that are “neon” colored?

The way I read it is ONLY actual neon, no bright colors. I imagine LED/LCD signage would fit the spirit of the theme, but they are an abomination in the sight of the gods.

ParticipantI was imagining neon lights. They didn’t have to be lit up, but the gas-filled glass tubes was what was in my head when I proposed this. The only specific “no” I put into the Theme suggestion was no Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler Neons.
But… as orionid usually says: “let the voters decide!”

ParticipantThanks for the leeway. Not sure if I’ll push it, just trying to plan for a limited amount of shooting time and hoping to have some contingencies.

Oh, I’ve been in most of them already, I just finally looked at the outside of them. 😀

ParticipantWell I found three today when I went into town with my camera. Hopefully I do ok this week. Two that are actually working and one that has not been turned on in at least five years I bet. probably a lot longer.

ParticipantFunny how I just went out tonight and shot all the old-school hotels with neon that exist within 30 miles of me (turns out there’s about 15 East, and only one I could find west and I could use a b-side from Vertical Landscapes for that one)? Yet I’ll probably pick the hippiecentric ones from the downtown college-centered area. I’ll have to see what worked in the original then decide whether old school or new look to have the better odds…

I was looking at your shots over on FB and I am kinda pissed. I live in NYC, the one time Neon Capital of the World and now everything is LED and LCD. Down in AZ you have beautiful neon all over the place!

ParticipantReno still had neon, and unlike the original, I didn’t see a “no casino” difficulty on this one.

We’re fortunate to have an artisan still in business who makes fantastic neon, trained by a true master. He does brisk business and Mesa, Tempe, and Scottsdale have lots of his work in their windows and on their buildings.
can I get an OBO?

ParticipantThanks, ennui. Can’t wait for the DST to kick back in; much easier to post 1:15 before work than :15 (the connection available at work is SO slow; Fark takes forever to load due to security crap.)
