orionid will have to answer the specific question, but I can say this – it’s gorgeous!

I’ve always wanted this to be as participation friendly as possible, and the stars certainly make the scene. It’s in.

ParticipantAre “fake” stars & or planets acceptable?

ParticipantAlready some nice stuff up there. I saw plenty that are better (to me) than what I submitted. Only went with one deep sky object as I’ve learned that I need a smaller telescope, or a viewing site above a substantial amount of the earth’s atmosphere. Seeing kills me every time; there is no getting around the 1/2 arc second seeing limit near sea level and I just don’t have a wide enough FOV to not make it plainly evident that the stars look like balls of light when they should look like pin pricks when images are recorded in minutes and not microseconds.
//oh well. Hopefully the ISS will do alright. I figured an inset wouldn’t be kosher so I linked to one with it as I think the ISS detail was pretty good in the shot.

ParticipantOkay, so I went with the lowest hanging fruit, which at least for me wasn’t so low after all. That place where I took those pictures is just awesome, but quite isolated, and somewhat tricky to get at.

ParticipantWell I was going to submit this shot I took specifically for this contest last year, but I see orionid has already submitted his similar shot. So I’ll just post it here and return to my cave. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kestrana/8018472744/in/set-72157631554440038

ParticipantThat must be a popular spot for pics of the lake! LOL You two could have been side-by-side from the looks of the perspective!

Those shots are beautiful. Gotta ask, is the foreground lighting natural or did you have a lantern with you?

ParticipantOne benefit of only posting 2 entries is that when you’re getting your ass handed to you by people with far better stuff, it’s a third less disappointing/crushing.
