So, who’s going to FarkCon 2012? And what are you planning to bring?
My current plan is to drive, since it’s about 12 hours, and then I’ll bring my big tripod and the whole kit of lenses. Stop along the way for some shots of the Sonoran desert. If I fly, since I hear flights are cheap to Las Vegas, I’ll might bring the small tripod and leave the telephoto zooms at home. The large aperture primes and the new flash I have enroute should work well for interior snapshots of the convention.
February 23, 2012 at 2:23 pm #45549Pope_Larry_IIParticipantI went last year and took my entire kit (okay 3 lenses…). We managed to see the grand canyon and the valley of fire state park (shoots still appear in my Farktography entries). I also took in some of the strip and old Vegas.
I took my camera to the party where I was not drinking and got a few shots. The other night, the camera stayed in the hotel room, as I have a tendency to lose things when I go out drinking.
April 7, 2012 at 2:57 am #45548YoyoParticipantFarkCon did happen. I have the pics.
Long story short: the 28mm/1.8 and 18-55mm EF-S were too long for the close range shots in the hotels and restaurants, plus I didn’t want to have to carry around my lens bag. I used the Tamron 10 – 24mm f/3.5-4.5 almost exclusively with Canon Speedlite 580EX II to overcome the small aperture and dim interior lighting in the casinos. It was definitely worth the money for the flash.
Edit: Fixed url code to avoid need to copy and paste.

No it didn’t. Link is broken.
April 7, 2012 at 9:10 am #45551YoyoParticipantOk, I fixed the link. A few of the pics are Canon CR2 raw format. (I suggest Irfanview w/ plugins.) Switch from thumbnail view to detail view to see them listed. I switched to small format when I noticed there was room for only 8 pics left on the card before the bar crawl. I’ve also got a video of the second act finishing his “Chicken, Monkey, Duck” song, but it’s too big to upload (>100MB). It was pretty good, but Nug (Mustard Man) was was the funniest. Mike Andrews has a few more pics posted on his Facebook page if you want to see them.

The link is still busted for me (just a blank page) FYI…
April 7, 2012 at 10:21 am #45553ravnosticParticipantWorked fine for me. Clear your cache?
April 4, 2013 at 3:23 pm #45554YoyoParticipantJust like this zombie thread being brought back to life, so too is the Fark World Party. Only this time it’s voodoo zombies in New Orleansinsstead of desert post-apocalypse zombies in Las Vegas. Anyone else coming? I’ll be the guy with the T2i, Tamron 10-24, and 580EXII.
April 5, 2013 at 1:06 am #45555orionidParticipantGot details?
/Yes, I am too lazy to go to fark and look for myself.
Edit: Nevermind. Curiosity overtook me and I went and looked. Too soon, working outage schedule. Have fun for me.
April 6, 2013 at 3:50 pm #45556YoyoParticipantIt’s going on right now! At this very moment. I’m Farking from inside the hotel!!!

April 7, 2013 at 3:32 pm #45557YoyoParticipantWell, so there I was, taking pics at the $50 flat rate open bar on Bourbon St. in the French Quarter last night, when who should I run into but Drew Curtis and the legendary Mike Andrews. Shocking! I know! What are the odds of seeing both of them at once?!? Since I had their mostly undivided attention, I asked if they might have some server space for all (or most of) the pics I’d been taking, and they’re response was that since bandwidth is now so inexpensive, they might start hosting images on Fark itself.
