OK… I’ve taken a summer job at the local stadium parking cars. Sure it’s minimum wage, but I get into any games I work for free. Not that I’m a huge baseball fan, but I would like to find some way to parlay this into an “in” with whoever can help me do some photography for the team or a publication.

I’m already planning on bringing my camera as often as feasible, but any ideas on how to get noticed?

I’m certainly not expecting this to turn into an actual paying gig, at least not any time soon, but certainly some photo credits, and the potential in the future to get paid would be nice.

An extra benefit this year is that a second AAA team is using our stadium for a majority of its home games while theirs is being renovated, so I actually am going to have more opportunities, as well as potentially a whole second organization to expose myself to.

Or is this just a chance for practice, experience and becoming a better amateur (i.e. “stop dreaming Yugoboy!”)

I’d say chat your way up the ladder, finding out who deals with publications and press releases. See if you can grab a press pass to take photos. Best bet would be to have a cache of images building up as you go, so you can show, “hey, look what I can do! Give me more freedom and you’ll get better results.”
