So, yesterday I asked a woman I work with whose regular job is photography, and her advice was to just ask people you know. She’s also (a rather artsy) make-up artist. I know it’s not very helpful advice.

It’d be a good starting point, but I think it’s just dipping your toes into the waters. People you know will be easier to work with and you can see how you need to direct them and what you need to come prepared with. When you work your way up to people you don’t know, you’ll be more confident in what you’re doing, but it’ll also be harder because you’re not as comfortable with them. I agree though, it’s a start.

Otherwise UVA, Richmond schools (JMU, RU, VCU) and DC schools (GMU, MMU, Georgetown) are all an hour-plus away, and VTech’s four hours away.

I thought JMU was closer to you than that, and they’ve got one heck of an arts department.

In any case, keep in mind that the students aren’t necessarily as far away as the college or university, and you’re likely to find at least a few commuters half the distance.
