Some of you may recall that earlier this year I posted a thread on Fark regarding my friend Anton Hammerl, a photojournalist who went missing in Libya during the uprising, along with US journos Clare Gillis and James Foley.

I requested that everyone please sign a petition to put pressure on the Libyan govt., The US state Dept., and the South African Dept. of foreign affairs, to facilitate their release.

In the interim Foley and Gillis have been released and we have received (via them) the devastating news that Anton had not been captured, but shot by Ghaddafi loyalists, and left in the desert to die.

Until a short while ago I was unable to share this with anyone, but I want to put this up here simply to thank everyone for their efforts and support.

You can view some of his shots here :

and his final shots from Libya here:

I will post this part separately. This is not a soppy, heart-rending appeal. It is here for information purposes. Everyone can decide for themselves.

If anyone would like to help the family of this great photographer, please feel free to make a donation here:

even better, as he wasn’t a big one for charity, more for action, you can buy a print by some of the world’s best photographers here:
    proceeds go towards the family

I’m sorry for your loss. He has left an important legacy.

Wow, that’s horrible! Condolences to his family, and to you. 🙁

Very sad news; his pictures are breathtaking–my condolences.

Best I can do is echo what everyone else said. I looked at his photos earlier and am still stunned.

Six month old baby? That just sucks, man. My condolences to you and his family, JB.
