Participant:thumbsup: Put me in the “you done the right thing” camp. $50 is far from unreasonable. Most publications will pay that (and be up front about it in their magazine) for reader submissions so if anything I would think asking for $100, or even 50 for you and 50 for some benign and useful charity, would be reasonable.
If it’s good enough for them to want to print, it should be good enough for reasonable compensation; and how much is $100 in 2012 really worth, anyway?

ParticipantThe acquisition isn’t merely about instagram. Its about now having their software engineers and knocking outs minor social networking rival in the face of their IPO. Also, perhaps trying to lure the vibrant photo community from G+ since FB changed their photo viewer and photo sharing to be exactly like G+’s (ironic since the photo community hated the G+ viewer when it was new).
That’s the meat of it. Not only does FB not have to worry about licensing the IP (and I can certainly drone on about the evils of software patents), but now they have a club to extract payments from others who have the gall to do the sensible, obvious thing by having their users execute the fewest possible clicks to do something.
Did I mention that software patents are evil?

ParticipantOne of the things that nudged me into learning more about the tech side of things was the histogram. That made the lights come on for me about things like curves, levels, black point and contrast stretching. Those in turn taught me how important it is to shoot in RAW unless your image is considered just about “done” when the shutter closes.

Participantyeah, wow… I spent a while looking at the final image on that. Talk about spending time (and money) on lighting.
Gotta ask, tho… where’s the pig?

Participant^that. They released a limited run of the 20da a few years ago just to appease the AP crowd. The standard filter over the sensor blocks about 80% of HA, so it’s a significant boost to sensitivity for the faint-fuzzy-hunters. I heard a lot of praise and no complaints on the 20da, so no reason to think the 60da will be any different.

ParticipantGood lord, I expected some rolled eyes over my weak innuendo… I can tell I need to move my innuendo bar to low-rider status. I’ll show this thread to my wife in 20 years LMAO!

ParticipantBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
^ Yeah, that. 😆 I made it to “CANON SUCKS BALLS” and stopped; but I’m going back to watch the rest later (this looks far too good to pass up). I have a Canon 5DII, and glass to match, but I’m not a “loyalist”. I’m a two-trick pony. I do landscapes and astrophotography, so props to whichever manages the least noise. My current rig is just fine for the landscapes and panoramas, but I’m in full-on drool mode for low-light performance and resolution… I’ll have to come back and comment after seeing the rest of the vid…

ParticipantNice to know it’s gone to someone who wants to keep it in trim…

Participant…there are other ways than DSS to get that to stack. align_image_stack might register the images for you; then either a manual layering in PS or a command-line averaging would get you similar results. I was pleased to find that ais manages to do a reliable job of registering astrophotos.

ParticipantThat’s much better than I expected, hard to see candles while staring into a searchlight… 😆

ParticipantGonna be cloudy, windy and cold here. Maybe rain. Low of 36. Imma gonna pass I think… Last time I was out, Venus simply dominated that whole area of the sky, the glow spread across a 20 degree radius. Hope you get to capture some of the stars through the blaze! 🙂

ParticipantOOOOOhhhhh… nice to see them bringing back the da… many folks don’t do the mod because it voids the warranty.

Someone get this guy a screwdriver… 😆

ParticipantSomething I just found out the hard way: ISO6400 is far too noisy on the 5DII to be useful. I just compared a couple stacks… the noise left over from 35 subs at ISO6400 is really noticeable. My last night’s shots are pretty much trash.
