ParticipantAs someone today entered a photo using the app Hypocam, which has a number of filters and other settings to create a B&W photo as well as other settings to tweak the different looks of the photo, I figured that I would add this to the list.
This could be considered in phone editing, although filters are frowned upon. Something else to discuss.

ParticipantThat’s kind of the thing. Even the newest version of Lightroom seems to get the lighting better looking than before. I am not sure what they have changed, but I have been getting better looking photos from meh shots. Modern software seems to get things right more often than not. Even phone camera’s do better with lighting than my old Nikon D300.

ParticipantI think that the biggest changes should be related to phone cameras. Since phone cameras do a lot of behind the scenes adjustments, even when filters aren’t being used, that might be something to look at. For example, we have always allowed in camera photos however you can do a lot of “in camera” stuff with a phone such as panoramas, which technically violate the rules.
There is also the issue of HDR which a lot of phones and some cameras, automatically use. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of us have been using it without even knowing it. The thing with HDR is it isn’t like the old days where you get heavily blown out lighting and saturation from software trying to do the adjustments (an example https://flic.kr/p/8Aqdwv). Most HDR these days is rather subtle, and barely noticed however it helps balance out lighting and saturation. It might be worth it to adjust the rules on that as well.
Those are just a couple that popped into my head.

ParticipantActually, “Down by the River” is a Neil Young song, CCR did “Down on the Corner”. =)
Bonus fact: CCR is from San Francisco 😉

ParticipantTo be honest, I don’t really remember Curious all that much…which is amazing since we have both spent decades doing Farktography together.
I looked through his photos on Bibliostats, and other than he appears to have lived in along the gulf or in Florida, there doesn’t seem to be much of a general theme through out us photos.
About the most popular photos that he took seemed to be along the water…rivers, estuaries, and the ocean. So, that would be my suggestion…Down By the River.

ParticipantI was informed by a lovely Lady that we did “Just a Geek” in November…I still like the nerdiness idea, but it can wait for a bit. 😉

ParticipantI think that I saw this group last August when I was visiting friends and we went up Long Island. It is pretty neat to get that close to some pretty big birds!
