Are there a lot of good photo ops there? A local rescue center that focuses on birds has a couple events a year that are just for photographers. They bring out about 6-10 of their resident birds that are no longer fit to return to the wild and allow you to photograph them. A local pro photographer sets up perches and all of the proceeds go to help the rescue. I usually go because it is fun, it supports a great cause, and it’s 10 minutes from home. http://howellnaturecenter.org/special-events/photography-workshops/ But people come from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario.
Yes, you can get up close to a lot of birds in various settings, including flying. I like it for the closeups. I was literally less than 3′ from a snowy owl, gyrfalcons more hawks than I could throw a stick at, golden and bald eagles, and so on. the falconers were having a little trouble with their birds, so I did not get many photos in flight this time.
