thanks for all that. now that youve mentioned it, i agree about the light area at the upper right, it IS distracting. but as much as i like the b/w version for bringing the texture out and creating a different mood, i do prefer the colour one. i guess i have a thing for colours, and this particular image is chock full of ’em -bright and primary. because i know they were all real and not altered in photoshop i marvel at it, and its for that reason the object caught my eye in the first place. the cobwebs and corrosion offer an interesting contrast of decay to the brightness of the colours.

thanks again for your comments. i’ll certainly be looking out more for where my eye is drawn by the image itself.

thanks to you both. like i said, i wasnt complaining except that perhaps i’ll have to stay up late… 😉

i’ll definitely be posting in the gallery here. and making sure to be precise in my requests for comments. i do know what you mean, Curious, about needing to be specific with what i want to know. something i wasnt with my slide/digital remark. i was trying to say that i dont know photoshop/the gimp very well – as in how to make use of its capabilities to enhance a photograph. i think it involves a different way of seeing an image that will partly come from experience.

taking photos with slide film, as i used to, i think trained myself to see a photograph and compose it before i raised the camera, because you get what you see with slides with no chance for work afterwards. i’d like to start to make use of the potential in photoshop to make the photo i take into something more creative than the initial image offers. judging from what ive already seen around here there’s a lot of very experienced and creative people to learn from.

thanks again, and i hope i’ll see you around the gallery.
