04-06-11 – Artsy-Fartsy

hmmm…I just had a thought, can I use a picture of a painting I did? I’m not sure I’d really want to do this, but thought I’d ask.

eta: in case it makes a difference, the paintings are ‘reproductions’, ones that I did in an art class using a picture of a painting as a reference guide. So it’s not my ‘design’, but I did make some changes from the originals.

I think something like this is fair game if it is included in some sort of context–some wall around the frame or whatever–or some sort of interesting small bit from the painting. But if you shoot and/or crop in such a way as to include the whole painting itself, then I think it toes the line..it’s basically a reproduction of the painting and not so much an original photograph, if that makes sense.

Added some to the album that I took today/yesterday. Thoughts? Will likely go with at least one of the flame ones and one of the abstract ones, maybe one of the berries, not sure.

Between the two berry shots, for this contest I’d pick the single berry on the darker background. The shadow of the twig/berry on the leaf is the deciding factor for me.

Between the two flame photos, I’d pick the blue one for this contest. I like both photos, but the orange one has unlit black sections on the left and right which distract me from the central light effect. If you really like that one maybe you could crop out the sides (maybe after rotating)? It might look like some astronomical phenomena that way?

And for what it’s worth, given how often my opinion is at odds with voters that’s definitely debatable(!), of the three “food coloring in a glass jar” (nice idea) photos, I prefer the multi-color one. And between the two photos of glass rocks, I prefer the portrait oriented one (meaning #14) since while the color are more muted the crop works better for me.

Thanks for the feedback, Choc-Ful-A and lokisbong. 🙂 Much appreciated. I think I”ll go with the blue flame (Hubby’s choice anyway of the two), the single berry, and the orange and blue food coloring for tonight (vs the green/blue one).

Now to check to see if they fixed the network problem at work so I can actually do my job. There’s been work, just haven’t been able to access it properly.
