FSM Upgrade

Born in (and have never left) the USA.

I place finishes the way that professional golf tournaments (including the American ones!) do. In terms of sporting events (and non-sporting events) based on large groups of participants that don’t follow a bracket, that’s about as official as it gets.

As a preview for what I hope to get in tomorrow, are you a bad typer? If so, you’ll love the new farktographer search…

Happy belated birthday, schnee! I checked onto your changes at the FSM; nice job.

However, I still find that there are ways to improve the search feature/portfolio view. First of all, I’d like to be able to switch the order of photos between place finish and number of votes. Secondly, I’d like the FSM to reflect tie votes in place finish. For example, the FSM lists my best finish as 7th place, when I really placed tied for tenth.

OK, that wasn’t too hard. Standings have been fixed as suggested, and I even FAQ’ed the change. Thanks for the suggestion.

I agree, it makes me feel better to have a lower number (plus I don’t want to look and see position 107 when I get another 1 voter :P)

I hear that! Thing is, after a bit of research, the current way is the way most “standings” are calculated (ref. Golf stats, NCAA College Football polls, &c.). The old way I’ve seen referenced as a “ranking”. Who knew?

“Standings” fit into a new set of stats I’m fiddling with better than “rankings” did, so I’m likely to keep it as is.

Yeah, that’s fine. I understand on the one hand. But on the other hand, when someone scans a list and sees a finish of 200, they’re generally going to think that 199 people (give or take) have more votes than that entry, as opposed to the reality that probably 30 other people finished with a single vote (or two) as well…
