Nicely done.
I need to find soem time to tinker… or keep working like mad and retire early. Nah, I need to just stop answering the phone when work calls! LOLJuly 10, 2011 at 4:42 am #37726ravnosticParticipantWhile packing for my trip to Cochise county (I leave in about 2 hours), I happened outside, saw the cell, and grabbed the camera and tripod (fortunately still set up for the other night’s less-than-successful storms). I got exactly *one* nice shot. It’s not perfect; it was the first picture. And I have such a damned difficult time with lightning. But I like it–a lot (I’m a simple fool, after all). 😀
Here’s hoping somewhere between here and Tombstone, I have even better opportunities!! I do love night travel…especially this time of the year!
July 10, 2011 at 1:39 pm #37725caradocParticipantLast night’s best activity was over Mesa, in the area bounded by the northern Loop 202 and the 60, between the 101 and Apache Junction. I wasn’t able to get out there…
There was some additional activity over the McDowells, but it was too sporadic for me to leave the house over it.
Tonight looks to be better probability – with the baby not quite three months old yet, I’m not willing to travel as much as I have in previous years to chase.
July 11, 2011 at 1:19 am #37724ravnosticParticipantThat’s too bad, caradoc. But lightning happens every summer. Kids are only newbies once. 🙂
On my way to Tombstone I did better than I ever have with lightning. Past Casa Grande, at the “Red Rock” exit, I caught several. This time, I learned to forego noise reduction; far easier to remove hot pixels than miss the shot while the camera takes a ‘dark’ frame. I shot at 100 ISO, in RAW, so not much noise to speak of.
30 second exposures, 18-55mm @ 55, f/5.6 (one at f/5, huh?–but that’s what the exif says). Very happy with them.

July 27, 2011 at 11:22 pm #37722ravnosticParticipantSunday’s lightning storm (not my personal favorite, but the FB friends/family seemed to like it best):
The day after:
July 29, 2011 at 6:20 am #37721chupathingieParticipantI can see why the first one was a fan-fave… lightning plus a very cool gradient. Of course I’m a sucker for reds and yellows in a sunset as well… Me likey.

August 4, 2011 at 12:16 am #37758CauseISaidSoParticipantWow is that a nice shot, rav! Please give us fair warning when you find the contest to enter that one in. 😉
August 4, 2011 at 12:22 am #37759ravnosticParticipantI’m thinking I’ll pick the best lightning shots for “Power”, if the theme goes green.

I, for one, am hoping that one goes green, because that’s where at least some of my motorcycle shots are going to end up if the motorcycle contest stays under-voted.
September 12, 2011 at 2:28 am #37761ravnosticParticipantHaboobs. I just love the word. Two links to a couple panos:
This one is about 432kb, comprised of some 11 shots, taken first, and spans some 190 degrees:

This one is about 3.8Mb (full-res), 5 images, 180 degrees, taken when it was nearly upon me:

Tiny version of the last for those who don’t like to look at big pictures:
October 31, 2011 at 12:24 am #37762ravnosticParticipantMy Halloween costume this year. Took this for a selfy-self portrait event over at G+, theme being (of course) Halloween costumes.
Going to Casino Az for their contest tomorrow–I hope I win some prize (even 5th place is $500). Them damned corduroys set me back $80–and I can’t for the life of me imagine what else I can do with them!
//(And yes, I did check the thrift stores–but do you have any idea how hard it is to get 32 inseam yet 36 length pants? These came unhemmed (which I can do), are imported from Italy, and the price tag on them said they were $150. If they were anything other than corduroys, I’d say I got a bargain.)
