I’m wondering how many Farktographers are using Google+ yet. I’ve com across a couple of y’all, but not knowing wvweryone’s names can make things tricky.
But, I’ve made myself a ‘Farktography’ circle anyhow so I don’t bug the rst of the internets with my yammering.
If you want to follow me, my profile is at http://gplus.to/olavf (Google doesn’t have nicknames so I use a redirect). I’ve also probably got a few invites left if anyone wants one PM me your email addy.
July 12, 2011 at 7:53 pm #40261sleepingParticipantI am (https://plus.google.com/102365827019189804664) although I haven’t played with it enough to know if I like it or not yet.

July 12, 2011 at 8:12 pm #40260olavfParticipantI’m digging the ease at which you can direct conversations at groups of friends, but it’s going to take some getting used to. I’ve been using it pretty extensively for about a week and a half – I got my invite the Saturday after they turned on the switch.
Try the http://gplus.to thing though. It makes it easier to share link to your profile. That’s come in pretty handy a couple of times. (for example, I posted this thread from my phone and there’s no way I’d be able to type out my profile number on that)
July 12, 2011 at 8:33 pm #40259Pope_Larry_IIParticipantdammit, I just got on the Facebook, now I gotta move on to this? I think I’ll just go back to being a neo-luddite.
July 12, 2011 at 8:42 pm #40258ravnosticParticipantI’m at http://gplus.to/ravnostic
I got on a few days ago after they opened it back up. One of my MySpace friends was in on the day it opened and got me invited once it reopened, but I’m leagues away from navigating with ease. I already like it better than FB, though. I’ve always hated FB.
BTW, that ‘Tom’ guy from MS is on there, and he’s posting great links and ‘blogs’ on how to use the site, as well as seriously funny pictures and stuff. Not like his MS persona at all–was very surprised (and pleased) to see he’s a normal guy (except he’s independantly filthy rich and retired these days), with a great sense of humor. I highly recommend following him (and to think, having him on your friend list in MS branded you as a ‘loser’.)
July 12, 2011 at 9:07 pm #40257olavfParticipantPope I don’t blame ya entirely. It’s pretty early beta, so a fair amount of time & discussion is around the way the site works and sending feedback and the like (for me anyway, ’cause it’s fun)
ravnostic That’s interesting. I’ll have to look up his feed. I found a site the other day that lists the people with the most ‘followers’ and I know he was near, if not at the top. Zuckerberg is on there too, ironically, but I suspect his may an alt account (from what I’ve heard).

I loved that we could actually voice our opinions on what we’d like to see. Did’ja see that page? I’ll look it up for you if not, if you’re interested. It gave examples of peoples thoughts (“I’d like to be able to do such and so”…”I think it would be better if…” etc.), then you could agree, disagree, or skip answering all together.
July 12, 2011 at 9:23 pm #40255olavfParticipantYeah, I heard about that but haven’t gone looking for it yet. I’d definitely be interested.
July 12, 2011 at 9:53 pm #40254KestranaParticipantSo far I’m not seeing much to make me favor this over Facebook. Circles are cool yes, but it’s something Facebook is sure to implement their own version of, if that’s the only major difference.
My list of grumbles:
- – you can’t +1 peoples comments
– you can’t block individuals from appearing in your stream, only individual posts or blocking people entirely
– some debate is going on about the amount of rights you’re surrendering by posting photos on Google+
– it looks JUST LIKE FACEBOOK except in Google’s colors, which I personally find less aesthetically pleasing
– there are no overall privacy settings, you have to manually set privacy settings for every part of your profile – and they’re default set to display everything to the world
-no apps yet, I can link to my Flickr on my profile but nothing updates my Google+ when I post new photos. I’m sure this will happen some day-if you’re viewing your own profile you can’t make an update on that page, you have to go back to the stream (you can make a post from your own wall on FB)
Pretty much the only thing I like about it so far is the circles and the lack of ads.
July 12, 2011 at 10:51 pm #40253ravnosticParticipantGot everyone’s adds; made a farktographer circle of my own. Thanks all!
Kestrana, I know +1ing comments was in that survey thing I did. And the photo thing? A friend from back in the MS days, Amy (whom I’ve actually met in person a couple times), posted this:
It will spell trouble for those unaware, for sure.
As for the voting for features thingie, it’s here:
I have to say, having used MySpace and FB both, Google+ is on it’s way to marrying the best of both sites. And they are listening to what people are saying–which is super nice (MS never did that, I don’t think FB did, either.)
But it’s going to suck when they start doing ads, and it’s sure to happen.

I have a share button in the very top right of the page that appears to allow this from pretty much anywhere in the googleverse, including my own profile.

Oh, hai! Thanks for the tip, sleeping!! So it is…
July 13, 2011 at 1:49 am #40250Plamadude30kParticipantI was really reluctant to join-facebook is a bit tiresome, and I just don’t feel like I need more of that. Still, I do like how they’ve built it around ‘circles’-it makes a modicum of sense.
July 13, 2011 at 3:29 am #40249KestranaParticipantAh so Share is there, I see it now. Thanks for the tip.
