I need to pick out about 5ish of my own shots for a submission. It’s just general, all-purpose photography – not so much a theme or a style – and PS/hdr etc are totally fine. It’s along the lines of a “I’d enjoy viewing this or publishing this in a general purpose magazine” kinda thing.
Problem is that I just can’t pick out what’s “good” from my own stuff. Now I’m not doing this for silly compliments – and feel free to respond that it’s all rubbish if you believe so – I just need some unbiased perspective. Just let me know if you see anything that jumps out and says “Hey if this was my work then THIS is the one (or two or five) that I would show off.”
So here’s a set of about a dozen of my faves –

August 16, 2010 at 3:15 am #32588sooshParticipantof the first group, I think the first three, the tree, the measuring tape, and the dog are the strongest. It would depend which direction you were going to be using them to whittle it down from there.
August 16, 2010 at 3:19 am #32589linguineParticipantI’d definitely go with the dog shot. I like both the tree ones a lot too, the black and white one a little more but Im a fan of black and white so I may be a little biased there. My next two favorites are the stairs and the patriotic squirrel, although the waterfall and ferris wheel aren’t far behind.

But don’t take my word for it; if I were a good judge of cool photos, I’d have a better vote/pic ratio.
August 16, 2010 at 3:32 am #32591lokisbongParticipantI would pretty much say the same thing soosh says.
August 16, 2010 at 4:10 am #32592orionidParticipantI like 1) Rainbow falls, 2) Murican Squirrel, 3) Dog, and 4) Sunset Tree.
August 16, 2010 at 4:32 am #32593sooshParticipantMurrican Squirrel would be my choice for some things, not so much for others.
August 16, 2010 at 5:04 am #32594olavfParticipantGiven a choice with no modifiers, probably the trees, followed by the colored pencils. But, I’m not a big fan of HDR.
August 16, 2010 at 5:38 am #32595chupathingieParticipantSwimming dog, sunset tree. I also like the skyline, but I’m drawn to HDR when it serves it’s purpose (and it does, IMO in that image, tho I think the saturation’s a bit high for a natural look).
I think I like the dog best of all, sharp focus and frozen action and the look on his face says he’d likely not fare well trying to chew gum while thinking of swimming…

Agreed. I also like the b/w tree, the colored pencils and the tape measure (in that order).
