Nikon (and Canon too I think) won’t tell you this, but it’s actually possible to get stuff repaired under warranty at quite a number of independent authorized repair centers, without going through Nikon directly. If there’s one local (I have no idea if that’s likely in HI though?) that can be significantly faster than sending it off to Nikon.
