    trippy. That’s a hell of a coincidence.

Nah… THIS is a coincidence. The burn is located almost exactly in the same location as shown… and it’s shaped like a Star Trek logo.

Can’t speak to that one, but I’ve got a 12V 15AH battery and a 300W pure sine inverter in a bag I use to power my ringflash (among other things) on location.

With a car adapter, it’d probably run a laptop or other DC devices a lot longer than it’d run the inverter under full load.

Go Lily! Are you gonna teach her more submission holds when she gets a bit bigger for when the boys get obnoxious?

    Yep. We’ll get to that.

I didn’t teach her the nose-hold… she figured that one out all by herself.

I took Lily to the mall yesterday to play on the SplashPad, which is an area of “dancing fountains” that randomly jet water up in the air, then drain, all on a padded surface that doesn’t puddle or pool the water. It’s for kids.

A little boy (maybe 2-3 years old to Lily’s 13 months) at the SplashPad thought it would be funny to splash Lily and make her cry, then get in her face as she backed away from him. She thought it would be funny to grab his nose – thumb in one nostril, index finger in the other – and make him scream.

His mother only said, “I told him not to tease girls…”

Cleaning the guns just doesn’t have the same effect as taking a whetstone to my Lochaber axe… or my roll-bag of throwing knives.

(http://www.flickr.com/photos/iaincaradoc/396504685/ – the Lochaber is the pole arm just to the left of the tent, there…)

Instead of the 2N2222 transistors I am using tiny relays. They may not be fast enough, so I need to test it. But I went that way to keep the trigger 100% isolated from the board’s output just to be safe. I have the transistors and will use them if the relays are too slow.

Get your cable from FlashZebra. Just build a minijack into the circuit. Then you can use the same trigger for multiple cameras.

There’s a good table of trigger-to-shutter delay times here:

    http://lightningtrigger.com/Compatibility.html#cameracompatibility

Look for the Shutter Lag column.

I didn’t even bother with relays, because a lightning strike is usually about 80-250ms, and when milliseconds count mechanical relays are too darned slow. I toyed with the idea of a solid state relay, but decided against it.

Just drop an optoisolator into the circuit and go with transistors. I couldn’t measure the time from spike in IR to the trigger output, which means I was getting somewhere under 1.5ms… Then there’s the 55ms delay for shutter lag, giving me a best-case of 51.5ms from the stepped leader to the shutter opening on my D7000, and 81.5ms from stepped leader to shutter opening on my poor old D80.

I built a lightning trigger based on an Arduino board and modified plans from the internets.

Did you use the schematics and code from Maurice Ribble’s site? GlacialWanderer?

Here are some results from that particular circuit:

I wonder if a rear filter would be less prone to visible reflections?

    Likely.

You shooting film for the astrophotos? Most digital cameras have a built-in UV/IR filter on the sensor… which is why I mentioned “unnecessary.”

It also happens when people keep a UV filter or other piece of unnecessary glass on the front of their lens.

Damage plan FTW… at least he didn’t have to reimb-ursa them for the gear.

    /God, I’m so sorry

You should be. You should be.
