Hey, I used an Ultrapod to suspend the flash above me for my shots this week! I hadn’t used it in over a year, but now that I’m getting the flash off-camera, I can see the possibilities.
I looked at your entries last night, I liked them a lot…really cool…good work!

I am interested in your lens….it is the lens I want…June 28, 2007 at 2:16 pm #7901PlagiarizeMeParticipantI have the 100-400. I’m actually looking to sell it if you’re interested, I could give it to you for about the same price as a new 70-200 f/4 IS.
Beach Camera is selling the 70-200 for $999 until 7/16/2007. You state in another post that you feel the lens is still broken, do you still feel that way or do you think it is the lowlight situations you shoot in? Also, how old is the lens? Is it USM? that may be a dumb question…I may be interested but I have to sell the 28 – 135 first……
I shoot mostly motorcycle sports such as motocross and streetbikes and need more zoom. The 135 is sweet, but just will not reach out there and grab the shots I want!
June 27, 2007 at 9:28 pm #7898PlagiarizeMeParticipantOk, I have enjoyed the 28-135 MM but am getting antsy to purchase a new lens. If the 28-135 would be compatible with the Canon 2x extender I would probably keep it, but I want to zoom in tighter. I am looking at these two lens to replace it with:
EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USMAnyone had any experience with either? I probably can’t afford the 100-400, it is out of my price range at the moment.
March 12, 2007 at 6:21 pm #7894PlagiarizeMeParticipantThanks for all the advice. I just got back yesterday, Sun March 11th, from Daytona Bike Week and the Superbike races all week. I got tons of good and bad photographs. It is going to take forever to weed through them all. here is one that stuck out first…got tons of wheelies, banking shots, o and even some women 😉
All in all, I think the 28-135mm did a pretty decent job. I was stopping motorcylces doing over 100mph+++

To me, an amateur with no knowledge of lens quality, I can tell the 18 – 55 isn’t good. That is why I asked here, I don’t want to drop 400+ and get a mehhhh lens.
Awesome, you people are great!
January 8, 2007 at 5:58 pm #7886PlagiarizeMeParticipant
You handholding? Rule of thumb is a shutterspeed equal to the inverse of the focal-length (as a fraction of a second).
A 300mm lens means a 1/300 shutter speed – 1/250 to 1/500, minimum – to reduce lens-shake (or 1/480 if digital). Since you’d be doing action shots, you’ll likely be faster than that, but it is something to keep in mind. I mostly shoot static subjects with the kit on a tripod, so these speeds are foreign to me.
I will probably do both. I shoot on a tripod for product shots, so I have a good tripod that I will be carrying with me. Unfortunately, almost all the speeds are foreign to me, I am planning to get the lens with a month to “play” with it.
January 8, 2007 at 4:44 pm #7884PlagiarizeMeParticipantIf 200mm isn’t telephoto enough for you, feel free to reply in this thread saying so.
After doing a little research, should I go ahead and spend the extra $100-$150 and get the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens? I want to be able to zoom in on the SuperBikes at the races and other sports. Is this lens fast enough? Is there something better….
Thanks for your help. I got Wolf to order the 50mm prime lens for me so I at least used the gift card.
December 28, 2006 at 1:21 am #7883PlagiarizeMeParticipantThanks for the great advice. I am going to call Wolf Camera’s local store and see if they can order me the 50mm lens.
Now I am going to save up and get the Canon EF 28-135mm IS lens before my trip in March to the Daytona 200. It looks like it is more than I need.
I am going to try and make a contest in the coming weeks. Some great work shows up in these threads.
December 27, 2006 at 1:30 am #7880PlagiarizeMeParticipantI built a light tent and am using tungstan(on)? lighting that I bought for my product shots. I have a Smith Vector light kit that I bought for about $350 more than a year ago.
Before I bought the XTi I used a G1 and got really creative to get good product shots.
Lighting isnt a problem. I know a lot more about putting light on the product and white balancing than I will ever know about lenses…
