Thanx orioinid!
June 28, 2012 at 12:51 pm #47537BoarchParticipantOk. I know I have 2 that fit the theme pefectly.
But… does this: http://m.flickr.com/lightbox?id=7185459009 ?The photo conucentrates on a small area, but you can see sky.
I’ll accept either answer..Yum Shaggy Manes. Did you eat them?

I COMPLETELY misinterpreted this question until I clicked the link.

July 2, 2012 at 5:52 pm #47539U-ManParticipantIma still a little bit confused. When I think of a “landscape” I envision a relatively subject-less photo. I mean, other than the landscape. The description has that bit about ‘the primary subject’ and ‘detail and intimacy’. The example of the statue in foliage (which I really like) looks more like a subject in a setting than a landscape.
Do you get what I mean? Am I making this too hard?
To clarify the spirit of the theme in my head, will y’all (esp orionid) please comment about these pics I grabbed from my upload to web file. Do they fit? (sorry about the large size)

Yes. Yes I do. And no, you’re not…
I have the same problem : where does it stop or start being a landscape?
I have plenty with a ‘primary subject’, but then I look at them and see a shroom, or flowers, or webs, and discard because they don’t say “landscape” enough that a stranger would use it as a description if they viewed the pic …pfff.Looking at yours, U-Man, (all of which I like, BTW) I go “Cat, cat, dewy web, dragonfly, minimal”
Am I, too, overthinking this?
July 2, 2012 at 8:01 pm #47541KestranaParticipantSo orionid is in VA beach until after contest is live. I’ll let him know that there’s a question about the theme if I speak to him, but in case he doesn’t have access to this in time, I’ll just say, don’t make it too complicated. “Primary subject” doesn’t have to be anything in particular – it can just be the area that’s clearly in focus should be up close to you. I think the most important part of the description is “where detail and intimacy are key”. I think the imaginary “ideal” photo is one that actually encompasses the farther reaches beyond the subject, but those farther reaches are hazy, indistinct, bokehed or otherwise only an essence or suggestion of what is beyond.
I’ll try to give two examples here:
This one is probably the limits of what would fit the theme and I’m really torn about whether or not it would be useable (but I’ve already used it so it’s not an issue):

I’m not the moderator, and I don’t play one on TV (wait, haven’t I read this commercial before?)
//Ithink the last is the closest to the idea; I’m going with the ‘land’ portion of the title myself.

Hmm, really? To me, that’s more of a portrait of leaves than a miniature landscape (I was thinking more along these lines: http://www.flickr.com/photos/awrose/1500655916/in/set-72157602295243363).

I do not know enough about wild mushrooms to take any risks with them. I was killing time in a park (and started out shooting for “Parking Lots”) and wound up with shots for a Triptych and this one as well.

Nice. I’m not feeling the magic though. I don’t have picked out yet.
