How cool is that, I was just eying up a utility pole on my street to photograph. Now to take the picture I want without my neighbors or the cops thinking I am nuts.

I move that this become the official farktography rallying cry.

I move that we publish an illustrated manual on how to take ridiculous photos without scaring the normals.
/That’s actually not a half-bad idea…

Where are we going to get someone that knows how to do that?
December 17, 2007 at 1:47 pm #14441Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantLoL… again, I”m glad that I”M not the only one who pretends to have ‘car trouble’ until all the traffic passes when I’m pulling over to take a shot… I just open the trunk, and mess around in there… then when it’s clear, out comes the camera and *snap snap snap… 😀
these days, people probably think you’re a terrorist if you’re taking shots of a building or something.. ehehehe

Unless I have were to have a Sigma 200-500/2.8, I have no idea why people should be scared of me taking pictures…

Oh yeah, I can see that … “It’s ok officer I’m a Farktographer.” “What, no, no, not that, Fark.” No It’s not porn, it’s just for fun.” “Well no, there’s no prizes in this contest, just votes.” ” No. Votes, from the other Farktographers.” “No really, I’m not some kind of peeping Tom pervert.” “Well not when I’m taking photos anyway.” “Really officer, I’m not making this up there’s really a contest, and it’s on a website run by a guy named Drew who spills beer on the servers a lot, and people make fun of the news, and there’s this squirrel with really big nuts, and we take photos and photoshop other people’s pictures, and just, like have fun, you know?”
Let me know how it goes, ok?

Staplermofo has a great story about taking pictures of a stapler at midnight in a park. It ends with a cop walking him home saying ” I just wish you would tell me what you were really doing in the park.”
December 18, 2007 at 10:04 pm #14445staplermofoParticipantI have since learned to say “I’m taking a photography class”.

Amazing.. I’m pretty sure that if a guy is being obvious enough to set up a tripod and what not that he’s a legit photographer… but I guess that’s exactly what the terrorists would say.. lol
December 23, 2007 at 1:26 am #14447corsec67ParticipantWould this work in this theme? I was driving by some train tracks and saw this bizzare thing going across the tracks.
For another entry I got some cool pictures of what I think are telegraph poles…
December 23, 2007 at 8:00 pm #14448Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantremember in the old days when they needed to get something onto the train without having it stop? I wonder if that is what you have captured… they can attach something to that line between the poles, and as the train goes by, someone on the roof of the train can retrieve the object? Dunno… seems like it would work.. hehe…
If I was in charge, I would certainly accept that picture as within the theme… Cool pic.
December 25, 2007 at 6:58 pm #14449ThenationalfreakParticipantHowdy folks, I’m new to the whole farktography contests and I was wondering, if HDR would be something that would disqualify me from this contest. I’ve read the rules, and while i wouldn’t say its “cartoony” its definitely more alien than not. I’d like to know now rather than feel smug in my nice picture and then get booted on day of. I have the unadulterated raw file, but I’d rather use the edited.

HDR, layers, blending, stitching, or any other photo manipulation techniques aside from levels are not allowed except for a few contests where that technique is in the name of the contest. This is not one of them, so the amount of stuff you can do to a photo is quite limited, and is mostly: erasing dust on the sensor, levels, cropping, and resizing. (Am I forgetting anything? That is all I use)
