I would think those are fair game, but a shot opposite the sun of a person or object that’s just lit up all golden from the setting sun wouldn’t really count in my mind, if that’s where monsieurstabby was going. orionid can clarify though.

So, how does one make their sunset/sunrise photo stand out from the crowd?
I *almost* have the pic I want. What I have is usable, but it’s not ‘perfect’ yet :/

Yeah I’ve got something a little..different and have shot a few toward that end, but not yet happy with them. Hope we aren’t going the same place 😆
Also orionid: Any thoughts on what the cutoff point would be on sunset vs twilight or dusk (and corresponding for morning, of course)? Or is it fair game if there’s at least some color/light in the sky? Might be hard to have a concrete rule, but if you have something in mind, let us know.
I took a shot today that will hopefully be a bit different from what most will post…we’ll see tho..sometimes the obvious ones are just so gorgeous they win out 🙂
I’d lean towards fair game with some sky color, but it’s still quite a blurry line.

I’d call it kosher. I’m also more stringent with myself than others sometimes (other times I’m about as far out of the box as you can get). I’m weird like that.
What do you think of this one? The colors are kind of muted, and depending on the monitor may be more or less difficult to see:

I think SilverStag’s is fine. olavf, yours is kinda like the one I posted in its subtlety, so I dunno?
Yeah, Elsinore, I’d thought mine was okay, so when you questioned yours…
Looking at it again, I think yours does say “sunset”…not sure about mine or not, though.
I’d say it’s just fine, personally. Be surprised if it didn’t do pretty well, even.
