ParticipantRav came and visited me last month, and I think he had a good time.
I did! I recommend the Plama-tour to everyone. I’ve picked up a boatload of OT for the next couple weeks, so I don’t know when I’ll make it down again, but I’d look forward to it. Preferably when it’s not so damned freezing cold! Oh, and sans cloudcover, too, if we can swing it.

ParticipantSeriously, the Liters BROUGHT IT in this thread. I definitely voted harder and heavier at the bottom of the thread than the top. A lot of folks who don’t loiter around these parts gave up stunning work. Not that all you did not not kick some serious ass, but the late entries this week were, as a rule, stunning.
I’d have to agree here. Some of the less frequent posters also kicked some ass!
They also (broadly speaking) submitted more shots that I thought “Yeah, I’ve actually seen that, or something like that, in a travel brochure”.
There may be something to be said for posting only in threads you have something for, rather than setting a goal of neccessarily posting 3 images to keep the stats looking OK…more power to ’em.

This has been my stance for a while now – I don’t post in threads that don’t interest me, or that I don’t think I can do justice to.
That said – I generally *shoot* for those threads, even if I don’t post to them. Keeps me on my toes.

I agree. I try to shoot pictures for every contest but sometimes I don’t have three that I think are contest worthy. And when I’m completely out of ideas (Song Remains the Same) or out of my league (Software Hootenanny), I opt to cheer from the sidelines. My goal is to take better pictures and thus more votes.

Participantor out of my league (Software Hootenanny), I opt to cheer from the sidelines.
if you don’t have PS or one of the pay photo manglers the Gimp is free. i looked at my last entries and while they didn’t get a lot of votes i still enjoyed making them.
and the voters will surprise you. enter those shots you took. sometimes i stay out if it’s an archive dive but if i shoot for a contest by gosh something is going up.

ParticipantI think it’s always worth a play. You really never know what’s going to happen. My 3rd place entry this week was my “throw away” entry in my head when I was predicting how they might do this week. Other times I’ve had photos I thought were going to do really well in voting and ended up mediocre or poor. But I play to play the game and I do love that unbroken line (for the most part) of entries on my FSM.

ParticipantIt’s interesting, them statistic things. “Travel Photography” got far more entries (270 v 210) than this one, but this one has way more votes (results not yet in, but it’s on the top ten recent contests, and ahead of TP by 3 as of Sat morning).
Great shots by everyone–a real pleasure to vote on–congrats to Markie_farkie!

KeymasterCongrats to markie_farkie this week!

ParticipantLots of good stuff this week indeed, and congrats also to markie_farkie (does he come ’round these parts?)
I’ve updated the vote graph in my previous post to show the whole timeline. You’ll see we had a great Sat surge that pushed us past our previous best recent contest of Weather by 168 votes. That puts this one at #6 on the most voted contests ever.
It’s interesting that even with all of the votes, we only had one farktographer to break 100 votes total:
Rank UserName ContestVotes
----
1 orionid 101
2 Ranger Joe 95
3 swampa2 92
4 markie_farkie 89
5 kestrana 88
6 Haerski 88
7 takoyaki 84
8 plamadude30k 84
9 U-Man 83
10 Mopsy 80And finally, I hope y’all will indulge me in just a little celebration of my own: It’s obviously a reflection of voter whims and not talent, but it’s the talent of the photographers I’ve temporarily bested (stats-wise) that makes it special for me:
Rank Farktographer Recent Vote Total

10 olavf 512I don’t anticipate that lasting long, so U-Man, I’ll keep the spot warm for you. (You’re on your own for orionid‘s spot, though.) 😉

ParticipantI’ll admit that getting knocked off that perch stings a bit. I’ll also admit that both of you guys totally deserve to be there. There has been some really good stuff (from you and others) recently.
Not as an excuse (really and seriously) but more of a comment to farktography comrades, I just haven’t ‘felt the magic’ for several months. Recently, I have been doing mainly archive diving. Hell, I forgot to vote this week! I’m on call and the hospital is full and life outside of work is kinda put on-hold.
**side note** Mr. Mopsy had his second surgery for a really big common iliac artery aneurysm just over a week ago. Mopsy has been staying in Green Bay, WI with him. Just in case the hospital stay went longer than expected, she set up the next three weeks of pics before he went under the knife. Not THAT’S dedication. 🙂
However, keep yer ‘A-game’ going because I’m going to wake up one of these days. 🙂 I have a color-pop idea for this week that just might work.

ParticipantI just haven’t ‘felt the magic’ for several months. – I can totally understand that and I’ve only done 36 contests. I’d imagine after 189 contests, periods of feeling like that would be expected. Not to mention the times when real life interjects its interruptions and distractions.
re: Mopsy & Mr. Mopsy – Best wishes to them both and I agree – that is dedication!
re: Your A-game – Oh, I’m well aware of where I shake out when you bring your A-game. Nonetheless, it’s always good to see, so… bring it! 🙂

We’ve all been there.
If it’s anything like your last color pop, I’m shuddering.
I also can’t say I got nuthin, but what I do have is a bunch of standard HDR stuff.

I looked back and saw that image–immediate ‘WOW’ factor.
I now have software that’s supposed to be comparable to Elements–and, for the some 2 things I’ve learned to do, maybe it is. But they’re letting us work OT, nearly unlimited, and paying off the truck in 4 months takes precedence over learning new tools (I work 6 12 hr days a week right now).
Spending my mornings unwinding and toying; don’t have much to offer for it, yet.
