ParticipantI don’t know, maybe you could crochet with steel wire or something….
This one time, in college, I tried to crochet a sweater out of bus wire because I thought it would totally be like chain mail except not as tedious.
Like so many of my college experiences I failed in more ways than any one person could articulate in one sitting.March 12, 2010 at 2:29 pm #26771cameraflage
ParticipantAh, you knitters/crocheters are so cute with your small, handheld devices. If you want to really make some textiles, get yourself one of these:

This is my wife’s device, a 48″ 6-treadle loom, one of three different looms that she has. This one’s the biggie and it currently resides in the garage attic that we’re slowly converting into a weaving studio. This particular loom was a freebie, as the former owner had it in storage and just wanted to get rid of it (although we had to pay to have it shipped from Cleveland out here to the Amish Frontier. This picture was taken right after it was delivered.)

ParticipantQuickly, let’s jufti knot ourselves a carpet, roll him up in it, throw him off a bridge then swipe the loom! If we hurry we could be rocking custom plaid before 2012.

ParticipantIf you go with cotton, you should be fine unless you set it down on a burner, and in that case, nothing would be safe 😉
I don’t know, maybe you could crochet with steel wire or something….
asbestos likes to form itself up in fibers, and is great for not burning.
there’s the whole deadly lung cancer, but isn’t a fireproof scarf worth 15 years off the end of your life? you were just gonna spend that time being old.
